Scouting report

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Indianapolis Colts

Trevor Lawrence passed for a season-high 315 yards against the Bills in Week 5, but he could only muster a single touchdown pass for the third game in a row. He managed 15.7 Half-PPR points, a tally exceeded by 14 other QBs last week, and is averaging 14.7 per game. He's the QB19 in points per game.

Lawrence has one of the friendlier matchups on the Week 6 slate with an AFC South clash with the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts rank 27th in aFPA to quarterbacks in 2023, helping Lawrence's projection as a mid-tier QB1 option this week.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Buffalo Bills (London)

Week 4 saw a pretty "Ho-hum" game from Trevor Lawrence. He attempted 30 passes and completed 23 of them, but only amassed 207 yards and a single touchdown pass. He wasn't asked to do an awful against a Falcons side intent on beating themselves. Lawrence finished the week as the QB15 and is the QB18 in points per game in 2023.

Lawrence should see a heavier workload in Week 5, although not an easier matchup, as the Jaguars take on the Bills at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The Bills rank 1st in aFPA allowed to quarterbacks this season. Lawrence projects as a low-end QB1 this week.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Atlanta Falcons (London)

Trevor Lawrence had plenty of opportunities to produce numbers against the Houston Texans last week, passing the ball 40 times. But he could only complete 27 of his attempts for 279 yards and one touchdown, with an interception into the bargain. Lawrence ran three times for 12 yards, and in total amassed an uninspiring 14.4 fantasy points, a tally exceeded by 17 players in Week 3. After three games, Lawrence sits at QB19 in fantasy points per game.

The Jaguars "welcome" the Atlanta Falcons to Wembley Stadium in London in Week 4, and the Falcons are not a great matchup for fantasy quarterbacks at present. The Falcons rank 8th in aFPA to passers so far this season. Still, it is hoped that Lawrence and the Jaguars break out of their funk, and if they can it keeps Lawrence in the low-end QB1 conversation.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs Houston Texans

It was a bad day at the office for the Jaguars offense in Week 2, and Trevor Lawrence was no exception. Lawrence completed just 22 of his 41 attempts for 216 scoreless yards. He added another 20 yards on four rush attempts, but Lawrence could only muster 9.2 Half PPR points. This was "good" for QB30.

Lawrence should be able to bounceback in Week 3 as the Jaguars welcome the Houston Texans, although the Texans' defense is not to be sniffed at currently. Lawrence should be able to post mid-range QB1 numbers this week.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs Kansas City Chiefs

It was a strong start to the season for Trevor Lawrence against the Colts in Week 1. Lawrence completed 24 of his 32 attempts (75%) for 241 yards and two touchdowns. He only rushed once for seven yards and did toss an interception, but his deeds gave him a healthy 17.7 Half-PPR points and a QB8 finish for the week.

The Jaguars have a mouth-watering clash with the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2, and the defending Super Bowl champions are one of the best QB matchups for any team this week. Lawrence and Patrick Mahomes should both be dueling to finish as the top-scoring fantasy quarterback this week.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Indianapolis Colts

After a forgettable rookie season, Trevor Lawrence took his game to another level in 2022 under the professional care of Doug Pederson. Lawrence passed for 4,113 yards and 25 touchdowns while adding another 291 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. Lawrence posted 17.4 Half-PPR points per game and finished as the QB7 overall.

Lawrence should get his 2023 campaign off to a good start against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1. The Colts were 22nd in aFPA to quarterbacks a year ago, and while a new defensive staff is in place many of the personnel are the same from 2022. Lawrence should be viewed as a mid-tier QB1 this week.

JAX QB Trevor Lawrence - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
What a difference a year makes, You don't need a math degree to measure the progress made in Year 2 by Trevor Lawrence, who doubled his touchdown total and sliced his interceptions in half while leading the Jaguars to the playoffs. At 23, the former No. 1 overall pick matched Deshaun Watson (2018) as the youngest QB in NFL history to throw for at least 4,000 yards with 25-plus TDs and fewer than 10 picks. He formed instant connections last season with WRs Christian Kirk and Zay Jones and hopes to do the same with newcomer Calvin Ridley, a 90-1,374-9 performer with Atlanta in 2020. The Jaguars also used their first three 2023 draft picks on Lawrence's side of the ball, adding OT Anton Harrison, TE Brenton Strange and RB Tank Bigsby. Harrison is the likely replacement for blind-side protector Cam Robinson, who will miss the start of the season on a PED suspension.

Fantasy Downside
Lawrence will never be Jalen Hurts or Daniel Jones, so he lacks the rushing upside of other elite fantasy passers. Still, he did rush for five scores to cement his spot in the fantasy top 10.

2023 Bottom Line
With Lawrence entering his third season with momentum, 4for4's John Paulsen believes fantasy managers should confidently draft him as the seventh or eighth quarterback off the board.
