Scouting report

MIA RB Salvon Ahmed - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Atlanta Falcons

Salvon Ahmed came out of nowhere to lead all Miami backs in rushing attempts last week with seven, finishing with 22 yards on the ground. Ahmed's usage in this offense makes no sense, and he's not worth fantasy consideration as he's averaging 8.2 yards rush yards per game.

MIA RB Salvon Ahmed - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Las Vegas Raiders

Salvon Ahmed led Miami in carries last week with six, but he didn't do much with them, finishing with 17 total yards. He also had three targets, but he failed to catch any of them. He now has 45 scrimmage yards through two games, which isn't enough to make him worth fantasy consideration.

MIA RB Salvon Ahmed - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at New England Patriots

Salvon Ahmed had a few big games last season, but when Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed were both healthy, it was clear Miami preferred Gaskin. Ahmed will back up Gaskin to start the season, making him a difficult fantasy player to trust. We only expect Ahmed to get around 6-7 touches in this game. While it's a decent matchup against the Patriots, it's hard to see Ahmed being involved enough to make him relevant in fantasy.

MIA RB Salvon Ahmed - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Buffalo Bills

Despite some impressive showings as the starter, Salvon Ahmed was an afterthought now that Myles Gaskin has returned. Ahmed carried the ball six times, had just one reception and finished with three total yards. Perhaps even worse than the low production was his low playing time (24% of the offensive snaps). Unless something happens to Gaskin, Ahmed isn't worth fantasy consideration.

MIA RB Salvon Ahmed - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Las Vegas Raiders

Salvon Ahmed looked incredible last week as he ran 23 times for 122 yards with a touchdown. In the three games where Ahmed has been the primary focus, he's averaged 97 scrimmage yards and scored twice. He's a great player when he's the one getting the touches, but his touches will be limited this week with the return of Myles Gaskin. We don't expect Ahmed to become irrelevant with Gaskin's return, but it certainly limits his ceiling. We haven't seen the Dolphins offense with both backs in the lineup, so it'll be interesting to see how this plays out. As for now, we like Ahmed as a viable RB3 or flex play in a favorable matchup against the Raiders (No. 26 aFPA).

MIA RB Salvon Ahmed - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at New York Jets

UPDATE: Salvon Ahmed has been ruled out.

Myles Gaskin is eligible to come off of IR, but coach Brian Flores has been non-committal about whether he's going to play. If Gaskin does return, then it's hard to see a large role for Salvon Ahmed moving forward. If Gaskin is out, then Ahmed will continue to be a viable RB2 play. Ahmed has performed well in Gaskin's absence, finishing with 74 scrimmage yards last week (12 carries, 43 yards — 5 receptions, 31 yards). Matt Breida's return meant next to nothing as Breida finished the game with two total touches and only seven snaps played. Ahmed will be an RB2 assuming he plays, and Gaskin is out. It's worth noting Ahmed missed practice Wednesday and Thursday with a shoulder injury.

MIA RB Salvon Ahmed - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Denver Broncos

Salvon Ahmed has emerged out of nowhere to become the Dolphins' lead back. Ahmed became relevant after Myles Gaskin and Matt Breida were sidelined with injuries, and Jordan Howard was released. Ahmed carried the ball 21 times for 85 yards and a touchdown last week, although he was limited as a receiver seeing one target (1-5). Breida is expected to return this week, so it'll be interesting to see how the Dolphins split up carries. We also saw Patrick Laird, DeAndre Washington and Malcolm Perry get time at running back in Week 10. Ahmed has the most potential out of all of them, but we'd be surprised if he gets 20+ touches again. He's a solid flex play in Week 11 against the Broncos (No. 19 aFPA).
