Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan is hopeful running Ryan Torain will be healthy enough to play in the preseason finale against Tampa Bay on Thursday.

Torain was able to fully participate at practice today and should see action against the Bucs.

Fantasy Impact: 

Torain is behind Tim Hightower and Roy Helu right now, but he's always been a favorite of Mike Shanahan and could close the gap at some point. While he'll probably start the season as a free agent in most fantasy leagues, he could be worth a waiver add if the situation changes in Washington.

Redskins OC Kyle Shanahan said rookie running back Roy Helu took “as big a jump as anybody from week 1 to week 2” of the preseason, and believes Helu will continue to make big plays for the team.

Fantasy Impact: 

Helu was getting some hype before the lockout, but nowadays it's all about Tim Hightower. But, Helu is a guy to keep in mind late in drafts. The Skins probably aren't going anywhere and at some point they may want to see just what this kid has on a more regular basis. We have Helu rated at 64, but he's got an ADP of the 15th round, so he's getting some attention in drafts. Make sure you have a deep roster spot and can stash him away.

Fans got to see the footwork that makes Roy Helu dangerous. Though he came in after Evan Royster, Helu still showed that he offers something no other Redskins back has: explosiveness. But, yes, picking up the blitz remains a problem. It was last week; it was again this week. Part of it is needing to keep his head up; the other part is that even when he does he’s been run through.

Helu is on pace for a roster spot. He gives the Redskins something they don’t have: a back with home run potential. He made defenders miss vs. Pittsburgh.

Fantasy Impact: 

Helu is no threat to Tim Hightower, at least at this point. Hightower is a good all-around back and the coaching staff loves him. As long as he holds onto the ball, he should be a solid RB3.

Another injury here, as Ryan Torain is out with a broken hand and Tim Hightower, who's the favorite to win the starter's job, will get the chance to show he can hold onto the ball with his two good ones. Mike Shanahan loves Hightower as a one-cut runner, as a pass-catcher, as a goal-line back and as a pass-blocker. The only hangup is the fumbles, which were a problem in Arizona and showed up early in camp this year.

Expect to see rookies Roy Helu and Evan Royster a lot, and if Hightower does fumble, there's certainly opportunity there for the youngsters while Torain sits out.
