Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Wednesday that RB Roy Helu took part in a limited amount of activity after missing about a week-and-a-half of practice time with sore Achilles’ tendons.

Shanahan said he doesn’t know when Helu will be able to return to full strength.

Shanahan said running back Tim Hightower, who missed Tuesday’s practice to attend his grandfather’s funeral and is working his way back from knee surgery, was back in pads today. Shanahan said he’ll have a better idea of whether Hightower will be able to play Saturday following Thursday’s practice.

Shanahan doesn’t know whether either Hightower or Helu will be ready for the season opener.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said both of RB Roy Helu's Achilles are sore.

Fantasy Impact:

Evan Royster will continue to get love in fantasy drafts now... With Helu and Tim Hightower sidelined, only Alfred Morris is a threat to take away work from Royster at this point.

Redskins RB Roy Helu said the Achilles tendinitis in his left foot is nothing new. He had cases of it as a rookie in 2011.

But there is a difference this time.

“It was nothing to this extreme,” he said.

Hence, Helu isn’t sure when he’ll return. He said he was going to talk to the trainers following an open locker room session with the media and that he wasn’t sure if he’d practice Tuesday afternoon.

More and more, it looks like Evan Royster has the inside track at the starting job.
