Scouting report

IND WR Reggie Wayne - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Reggie Wayne - Week 4 vs. Tennessee Titans

Reggie Wayne opened the season strong with a 9-98 stat line, but since then he's fizzled out. He caught four passes for 62 yards against the Jaguars last week. He currently leads all Colts receivers with 188 receiving yards.

Andrew Luck has been spreading the ball around. There are eight players with 70 receiving yards or more on the season. This spread of wealth hurts Wayne's value.

He faces a difficult Titans defense this week. Look for him to do more of the same against Tennessee. He should be used as a WR3.

IND WR Reggie Wayne - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Reggie Wayne - Week 3 vs. Jacksonville

Andrew Luck has thrown five touchdowns already this season, but none to veteran wideout Reggie Wayne. Wayne does lead the team in receptions (12) and yards (126), so it's not all bad news. Most of those numbers came from the season opener. Last week Wayne caught just three of his seven targets for 28 yards.

Wayne draws a favorable matchup this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his last three outings against the Jags he's averaged 94 yards per game. This season the Jags have struggled to stop opposing offenses. Wayne should easily find ways to get open against Jacksonville.

Wayne should be able to bounce back from last week's disappointment and put up respectable numbers. He should be viewed as a low WR2 or high WR3 option with more value in PPR formats.

IND WR Reggie Wayne - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Reggie Wayne - Week 2 vs. Philadelphia

Any questions about Reggie Wayne's ACL injury should be put to rest. He was heavily used in the team's opener against the Denver Broncos as he caught nine passes for 98 yards on 13 targets. Andrew Luck looked often to his veteran wideout, and Wayne delivered. Wayne should be highly valued in PPR formats.

Wayne has a great matchup in Week 2. The Philadelphia Eagles allowed the most fantasy points to wide receivers a year ago. The Eagles defense didn't appear to improve a whole lot in Week 1 as they allowed undrafted rookie Allen Hurns to go for 110 yards.

The Colts could be headed for another high scoring game this week against Philadelphia, which means more opportunities for Wayne to catch the ball. He should be viewed as a high-end WR2 in PPR and low-end WR2, high WR3 option in standard this week.

IND WR Reggie Wayne - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Reggie Wayne - Week 1 vs. Denver Broncos

The last time Reggie Wayne was on a football field for a regular season game was against the Denver Broncos. Before his ACL tear he caught five passes for 50 yards, not a bad outing. The Broncos may want to put shutdown CB Aqib Talib on the veteran wideout, making this week a bit ugly for Wayne.

This game should be high scoring, as it was the last time, and Wayne will eventually find ways to get open. He should be viewed as a WR3 option this week, but it remains to be seen how much the Colts will lean on their veteran in his first game back.

IND WR Reggie Wayne - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Before Reggie Wayne’s injury he was having a fairly good season, especially in PPR formats. In his seven starts he caught at least five passes in all but one game and had at least 46 yards. His consistency makes him a valuable option.

Fantsy Downside
Wayne is 35 years old coming off of a torn ACL. It’s harder for veterans like Wayne to recover fully from a brutal injury like that. The Colts also added more weapons in the offseason that will take away from Wayne. Hakeem Nicks and rookie Donte Moncrief add depth to the Colts’ receiving corps. Then there’s obviously the presence of T.Y. Hilton.

Bottom Line
Wayne isn’t the player he used to be and his numbers will likely take a dip this season. In 2012 Wayne finished with 1,355 yards and last season he was on pace for over 1,200. It’s possible he could finish below the 1,000-yard mark in 2014. The veteran wideout should be viewed as a WR3. He’ll be a steady starter who will rarely have a bad game.
