Scouting report

BAL TE Owen Daniels - Week 18, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Wildcard Weekend – Owen Daniels vs. Pittsburgh

Owen Daniels had two catches for 46 yards to close out the season against the Browns last week, and he continues to be a solid fall back option for quarterback Joe Flacco in the passing game.

Daniels is a mid-tier option this week, with elite guys like Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski not on the schedule in the wild card round. He’s still risky, as he hasn’t put up big numbers very often this season, but if you can’t grab one of the top guys like Olsen, Witten, or one of the Colts, you could do worse than Daniels who should at least get some targets.

BAL TE Owen Daniels - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 – Owen Daniels vs. Cleveland
Owen Daniels disappointed everyone last week, putting up only seven yards on one reception. He was thrown at six times, but in an off day for the entire Baltimore offense, Daniels did nothing to help the team. This week, the Browns are a tough defense for him to contend with and he hasn’t been productive enough to warrant real fantasy consideration anyway. He’s barely in our top 20 this week, putting him outside fantasy starter territory.

BAL TE Owen Daniels - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 – Owen Daniels vs. Houston

Owen Daniels had a nice game against the Jaguars last week, putting up 62 yards on four catches, and scoring a third quarter touchdown that gave Baltimore the lead. Daniels also led the team with nine targets, which is huge for the veteran tight end.

This week, he’ll face a Texans defense that has struggled against the pass this season, ranking 26th in passing yards allowed per game. Still, Daniels and the Baltimore passing game have not been consistent enough to warrant serious fantasy consideration, and he should be considered a desperation play at best for fantasy owners.

BAL TE Owen Daniels - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 – Owen Daniels vs. Jacksonville

Owen Daniels had only two catches and 27 yards last week against a stingy Dolphins pass defense, and he’s a risky fantasy option each week anyway with limited upside. He’s been productive this season, but hasn’t put up the kind of production that you hope for when you count on a fantasy tight end.

This week, Daniels faces a below average Jaguars defense that has actually been okay against the tight end position. Either way, the Ravens will try to run the ball, and Daniels hasn’t been consistent enough to risk starting in most leagues. If you’re desperate, then there’s upside here, but generally speaking you should have better options than Daniels.

BAL TE Owen Daniels - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 – Owen Daniels vs. Miami
Owen Daniels had only two catches and 30 yards last week against the Chargers. He’s the starter and isn’t a bad option during good matchups, but he kind of is who he is at this point in his career. This week is not one of those good matchups for him, as he faces Miami’s second ranked pass defense. Daniels ranks way outside starter territory this week and fantasy owners should look elsewhere at the tight end position.

BAL TE Owen Daniels - Week 13, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 – Owen Daniels vs. San Diego
Owen Daniels had only two catches for seven yards against the Saints on Monday night, although he was targeted five times. He’s been an inconsistent fantasy option this season, but he has value as the top guy on the depth chart in Baltimore. This week may not be a good one to start him however. He’ll face a Chargers defense that has allowed the third least fantasy points per game to the TE position. Daniels is not matchup proof, and fantasy owners should steer clear if possible.

BAL TE Owen Daniels - Week 12, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 – Owen Daniels vs. New Orleans

Owen Daniels had two catches for 20 yards on four targets two weeks ago against the Titans. He remains the starting TE for the Ravens however, and the entire Baltimore passing game struggled against Tennessee. Daniels is a reliable, albeit unspectacular player in that offense.

This week, Daniels faces a Saints defense that has struggled this season, but has actually shut down the tight end position so far. Daniels remains a middle-of-the-road option for fantasy owners and we have him just outside the top ten, making him a borderline starter in most leagues.
