Listed third on the depth chart, Browns RB Brandon Jackson has seemingly rallied in the past couple of weeks and become a serious threat to No. 2 running back Montario Hardesty.

One of them could play a prominent role in Week 1, especially if the Browns decide to sit Richardson in the opener because of the arthroscopic surgery he had on his left knee Aug. 9.

Browns coach Pat Shurmur says that Montario Hardesty is his backup running back “for now.”

"I think at this point, yes [Hardesty is the primary backup]," said Shurmur. "Unless something changes, that's fair to say."

Browns RB Montario Hardesty started the game and did not fumble – for the first time in three games – but he was largely ineffective. He had one run for 14 yards, but gained only 10 on his other five.

Brandon Jackson rushed seven times for 48 yards and may have stolen the No. 2 job and put himself in line to start Sept. 9 in the season opener if rookie Trent Richardson is not ready.

"RB [Montario Hardesty] had a couple good hard runs the other night,'' Browns coach Pat Shurmur said. "He’s practiced extremely well. I think he had a good day today.

He’s a very willing guy. He’s kept himself healthy and he’s doing a heck of a job.''

Fantasy Impact: 

It looks like Hardesty has an advantage over Brandon Jackson for the RB2 role on Cleveland. This is something worth noting if you already drafted RB Trent Richardson, or plan to.
