Browns RB Hardesty injured

Cleveland Browns rookie running back Montario Hardesty has left his exhibition debut because of an injured left knee.

Hardesty, who missed all of training camp with a bone bruise in his right knee, was hurt on a 2-yard carry in the second quarter Thursday night against Chicago.

Hardesty stayed on the ground for several minutes before walking to the sideline. The team's medical staff examined him on a trainer's table before taking him to the locker room.

The team said his return was questionable.

If he has a good showing tonight, should he be the starter against Tampa Bay on Sept. 12?

The upcoming Browns preseason game also marks the debut of rookie running back Montario Hardesty, whom the Browns had penciled in as a feature back this season. Hardesty (right knee) said he's ready for anything despite practicing only two full days.

Browns Coach Eric Mangini also said rookie running back Montario Hardesty, ''should play against Chicago, so [we'll] be able to take a look at him. All those things come into play, so those are the tough decisions. It's a good part of having the fourth preseason game.''
