Said Packers Joe Philbin, the Packers’ offensive coordinator:

“You’re never sure what you have until you get a guy in a game. I thought [Matt Flynn] really handled himself well (against Detroit). Obviously you’d love to have him not throw an interception at the 9-yard line. We all know that; you don’t have to be a coach to figure that out. But I thought he did a good job. Thought he led the team well, thought he had a good grasp of what we were doing, thought he had pretty good poise in there, he didn’t seem panicked.”

The Packers also will try to take pressure off Flynn by running the ball better than they have most of the season. New England ranks No. 14 in the NFL in fewest rushing yards allowed and No. 16 in fewest yards allowed per carry.

For the second time this season, Aaron Rodgers is recovering from a concussion following a Green Bay loss.

The Packers lost their quarterback late in the second quarter Sunday against Detroit, shortly after Rodgers was hit on back-to-back plays. He was slow getting up after being hit by Amari Spievey and Landon Johnson at the end of an 18-yard scramble. Green Bay took a timeout, then Rodgers was sacked on the next play.

Rodgers stayed in for the rest of the drive before being replaced by Matt Flynn. Detroit went on to win 7-3.

"He was a little groggy after those two plays, and the medical staff and Aaron decided it was in his best interest not to go back in," coach Mike McCarthy said. "That's not my call, and I don't know any specifics."

Rodgers was not made available to reporters afterward, and he was not in the locker room when it was open to the media, so his status for next weekend's game at New England is unclear.

Packers backup quarterback Matt Flynn knows there's only a slight chance he'll play against the Dolphins, but he took all the starting snaps with the offense and has been treated as the starter in meetings.

At the very least, it's a good experience for him.

"It's nice to go in there and get the reps," Flynn said. "Because I feel like when I get these kind of reps in practice it really helps me as a quarterback, helps me see the new game plan and work it in practice.

"So I feel like I improve as a quarterback when this stuff happens."
