Scouting report

CHI QB Matt Barkley - Week 17, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Minnesota
Matt Barkley has been a surprisingly strong fantasy option at QB. After replacing Jay Cutler and Brian Hoyer, the fourth-year player has put together three 300-yard, multi-touchdown games. But those big numbers also come with a grain of salt, as he's thrown eight picks in his last two outings.

Barkley will likely continue his struggles this week, as he gets a tough matchup against the Vikings. While Minnesota has allowed plenty of yards and touchdowns lately, it was against top-tier quarterbacks and not Barkley.

There's a chance Barkley has another solid game, but he's more likely to have a bad game. He's one of the poorer choices at QB this week.

CHI QB Matt Barkley - Week 16, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Washington
Matt Barkley has been surprisingly useful in fantasy in his few couple of weeks as the starting quarterback. He's had two 300-yard, multi-touchdown games in four starts, the latest of which came last week.

He'll look to continue that success this week in a favorable matchup against Washington. The Redskins have given up 300+ passing yards in five of the last six games.

But while there's intrigue towards Barkley as a streaming option, it's hard to completely trust him. He still has more interceptions (seven) on the year than touchdowns (six) and had a few dud performances. He'd be a solid DFS play, but he's not much more than a QB2 in redraft formats.

CHI QB Matt Barkley - Week 15, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Green Bay
Matt Barkley is averaging just over 200 yards in his last two games and has only thrown one touchdown pass in those contests. The lack of production isn't entirely his fault, as he's been throwing to practice squad receivers. He gets Alshon Jeffery back this week, which could boost his stats.

Barkley will get a decent matchup this week against the Packers, but it's hard to trust him as a fantasy option in the playoffs right now. He hasn't done a whole lot in his three starts, and isn't really on the fantasy radar.

CHI QB Matt Barkley - Week 14, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Detroit
Matt Barkley did the best he could last week in the snow, completing 11-of-18 for 192 yards. He had no touchdowns or interceptions, as the Bears didn't allow him to do too much in the hazardous conditions.

This week, he plays indoors at Ford Field, and should be better. But better doesn't necessarily mean great. Barkley's shown some promise this season, but he's still an undeveloped passer throwing to receivers who are surprisingly on an NFL roster.

Detroit's defense has stepped up its game lately as well, so this isn't even a great matchup. Barkley will be a poor option at quarterback this week.

CHI QB Matt Barkley - Week 13, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. San Francisco
Matt Barkley surprisingly put up a great fantasy day last week against a tough Titans defense. He finished with 316 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions. He at least looks to be a decent option moving forward.

This week, he'll get a favorable matchup against the 49ers. San Francisco has allowed multi-touchdown games to quarterbacks in every game but two this season and have allowed over 250 passing yards per game.

Barkley isn't an elite player, but he showed promise last week and has a decent matchup. He's not reliable enough for redraft leagues, but he could be a DFS sleeper.

CHI QB Matt Barkley - Week 12, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Tennessee
Matt Barkley is in line to start after Jay Cutler suffered an injury, and Brian Hoyer was placed on injured reserve weeks ago. We got a glimpse of Barkley earlier this season and it wasn't pretty. He went 6-of-15 for 81 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions.

Not only will he be making his first career start, but he'll be doing it without much talent around him. Alshon Jeffery is suspended, and Zach Miller is done for the season. He gets a great matchup this week against the Titans, who have allowed multiple touchdown games in six straight weeks, but there's just not a lot to like here. Barkley is a poor quarterback option.
