Scouting report

by Andy Rioux

OAK RB Marcel Reece - Week 8, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 – Marcel Reece at Cleveland Browns
Marcel Reece was inactive last weekend. Even if Reece returns to face the Browns on Sunday, he is not involved enough in Oakland’s offense to help fantasy owners.

OAK RB Marcel Reece - Week 7, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 – Marcel Reece vs. Arizona Cardinals
Marcel Reece remains the spare tire in Oakland’s suddenly faster automobile. In week six, he had one carry for two yards and one reception for 11 yards. The likeable Reece has generated good moments during various points of his career, but another quiet afternoon is ahead against Arizona.

OAK RB Marcel Reece - Week 6, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 – Marcel Reece vs. San Diego Chargers
Marcel Reece continues to take a back seat in the Oakland backfield. The talented fullback has carried the ball twice in four games and has seven receptions. We have seen Reece catch some breaks in the past, but at the moment, he is not going to help any fantasy owners build a big castle in the sky.

OAK RB Marcel Reece - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 – Marcel Reece vs. Miami Dolphins
After Oakland’s week two loss to Houston, where Marcel Reece caught one pass for 11 yards and did not receive a carry, there was chatter coming from the Raiders coaching staff that they would find ways to use Reece. Indeed, Reece was more active in week three, but finished with just one carry for seven yards and three receptions for 19 yards. Until Marcel’s touches rise significantly, he does not belong on fantasy rosters.

OAK RB Marcel Reece - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 – Marcel Reece at New England Patriots
Marcel Reece remains the invisible man in the Oakland offense. He caught one pass for 11 yards in week two and did not receive a carry despite the fact Maurice Jones-Drew was sidelined. The same story that has played out for several seasons is playing itself out again in 2014. Until Marcel gets a chance to be Oakland’s top back, he has no relevancy in the fantasy universe.

OAK RB Marcel Reece - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 – Marcel Reece vs. Houston Texans
Marcel Reece was given little to do outside of blocking by the Oakland coaching staff last Sunday. Reece had one carry and caught one pass. His involvement could rise if Maurice Jones-Drew is limited or unable to play, but as we have seen before, Marcel only generates fantasy value when the Raiders are completely desperate and forced to turn to him as their lead back. While that scenario could happen before the season is over, it is not happening at the moment.

OAK RB Marcel Reece - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 – Marcel Reece at New York Jets
The last time he played against the Jets in December, Marcel Reece enjoyed a rare moment in the spotlight as Oakland’s lead back. Darren McFadden and Rashad Jennings (now with the New York Giants) were both injured. While Reece has displayed the ability to carry the load, the Raiders are content to primarily use him as a fullback. As long as that continues, Reece will remain no more than a free agent who needs some breaks to make fantasy rosters.
