Scouting report

NO RB Khiry Robinson - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4: Robinson vs. Cowboys
Khiry Robinson rushed 18 times for 69 yards in the Saints' Week 3 win over the Vikings. With Mark Ingram out with a hand injury, Robinson started the game and was the Saints' primary rusher when Pierre Thomas wasn't receiving opportunities in the passing game. While he didn't draw the Saints' lone goal line carry, the only reason Thomas got the nod was because the Saints snapped the ball quickly after Thomas caught a pass to set the team up at Minnesota's 1-yard line. Robinson has low-end RB2 appeal in PPR leagues and ranks as our No. 15 overall RB for Week 4 in standard formats.

NO RB Khiry Robinson - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3: Robinson vs. Vikings
Khiry Robinson rushed for 31 yards on eight carries in the Saints' Week 2 loss to the Browns. He once again played behind Mark Ingram, who is expected to miss time with a hand injury. That opens the door for Robinson to be Sean Payton's primary back in the running game. Ingram scored three goal-line touchdowns in the first two weeks of the season, which is a role that Robinson is now expected to take over. Given his ability to also catch passes, Robinson is worth a pickup in all formats and ranks as our No. 26 overall RB for Week 3. Consider him a flex option versus the Vikings.

NO RB Khiry Robinson - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2: Robinson vs. Browns
Khiry Robinson rushed six times for 28 yards and a touchdown in the Saints' Week 1 loss to the Falcons. Four of his six carries came in the second quarter alone and he continues to have a role in Sean Payton's offense. That said, Mark Ingram remains the No. 1 back on early downs and unless he struggles or gets hurt, Robinson's workload won't increase. He's our No. 54 RB for Week 2.

NO RB Robinson Khiry - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1: Robinson vs. Falcons
Khiry Robinson will certainly have a role in Sean Payton's offense but that role will limit his fantasy production. If Payton uses his backs in the regular season like he did in the preseason, then Robinson will see plenty of work in between the tackles but will be replaced in passing situations and at the goal line in favor of Pierre Thomas/Mark Ingram. Unless there's an injury, keep Robinson on your waiver wire for now. He's our No. 57 ranked RB for Week 1.

NO RB Khiry Robinson - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Khiry Robinson carved out a role for himself as a rookie last year while rushing for 224 yards and a touchdown on 54 carries. He seemingly hasn’t relinquished that role in 2014, as he mixed in with the first-team offense in the team’s third preseason game (which is often viewed as a dress rehearsal for NFL teams). If either Mark Ingram or Pierre Thomas were to suffer injuries during the regular season, then Robinson would be a nice stash in all formats.

Fantasy Downside
Although he’s likely to receive more carries, Robinson finished as fantasy’s RB80 last year and it’s unlikely that his role is going to increase much more from last season. In the third preseason game this year, Robinson saw plenty of carries in between the 20s but Ingram got the majority of red-zone looks and Thomas worked in the passing game. If Payton uses the three backs in a similar fashion during the regular season then Robinson offers the least amount of fantasy value of the three backs.

Bottom Line
Robinson will have more value to the Saints than he will to fantasy owners this year. If he’s not going to receive looks in the red zone and if Thomas continues to be the main passing back, then Robinson’s production will be severely limited. He’s currently going undrafted in both standard and PPR formats and unless there’s an injury, Robinson won’t be worth a waiver wire pickup either.
