BAL K Justin Tucker - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 – Justin Tucker vs. Carolina

Justin Tucker was perfect last week against the Browns, drilling all three field goal attempts and adding a pair of extra points as well. He also managed to hit them when it mattered most, making a game winning kick in the closing seconds to secure a Baltimore victory.

Tucker faces a tough Panthers defense this week, but that might mean kicking opportunities instead of touchdowns for Baltimore, especially as the Panthers have shown a knack (up till last week against the Steelers) for stuffing the run game in the red zone. Tucker is a good rest of season option because of his reliability and his strong leg, and despite the matchup this week, he’s a player that fantasy owners can stick with and not worry about at the kicker spot.

BAL K Justin Tucker - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 – Justin Tucker vs. Cleveland

Justin Tucker did his job last week against the Steelers. As the offense stalled several times in the red zone, Tucker connected on all four field goal attempts, reminding everyone why the youngster was so good last season.

Against the Browns this week, we have Tucker ranked 10th, making him a solid fantasy option. If you’re streaming kickers, Tucker is a nice option against a team that has been plucky so far this season, but has allowed points in both Week 1 and Week 2. The Ravens should be able to move the ball enough to keep Tucker kicking.

BAL K Justin Tucker - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 – Justin Tucker vs. Pittsburgh

Justin Tucker made a 38 yard field goal last week, but missed a 55 yarder early in the game. He remains an excellent, strong-legged kicker who will be helped or hampered by the Ravens offense all season.

The Ravens looked uneven offensively against the Bengals, and while they will probably improve in their new system as the season progresses, it’s hard to count on Tucker in the short term. Even with Tucker’s talent, we have him ranked as an average fantasy option this week, and not as a reliable starter.

BAL K Justin Tucker - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 – Justin Tucker vs. Cincinnati
Justin Tucker was one of the best kickers in the league last season, and he’s continued to look sharp all preseason. Hampered by one of the league’s stagnant offenses in Baltimore, Tucker made the most of his opportunities, hitting six field goals last year from over 50 yards, including a 61 yard game winner against Detroit.

Kickers are kind of a crapshoot in fantasy, but good offenses often lead to good kicking numbers. Because of that, we remain conservative when ranking the third year player out of Texas. 15th on our list, we don’t have him starter territory against a very good Bengals defense, but keep an eye on the strong-legged Tucker. He’s one of the few kickers with consistency and job security and is worth keeping on your roster all year.

BAL K Justin Tucker - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Entering his third season out of Texas, the strong-legged Justin Tucker has emerged as one of the best young kickers in the NFL. Coming off a Pro Bowl season last year, Tucker was one of the few bright spots for the Ravens during a disappointing 2013 season. He finished the year making 38 of 41 field goal attempts including seven shots from beyond 50 yards.

Fantasy Upside
Tucker is great from distance with a very strong leg. He made 18 field goals from beyond 40 yards last year, including a 61 yarder. He’s also accurate, as he’s made nearly 92 percent of his career attempts, and he tied for the lead in field goal attempts last season. With improvements to the Ravens offense, he could very well repeat his performance from last year.

Fantasy Downside
The Ravens offense was worse in 2013 than it was in 2012, and Tucker only had 33 field goal attempts in 2012 compared to 41 last year. If the Ravens offense improves this season as expected, it’s very possible that the offensive efficiency could have the opposite effect on Tucker’s field goal attempts, making his fantasy value decrease.

Bottom Line
Tucker doesn’t have the long term career track record to be considered amongst the very best at the position yet, but he’s well on his way and we have him ranked just outside the top 10 for fantasy kickers. We expect a regression back closer to his first season totals and the Ravens offense to do a little better job moving the ball and taking advantage of red zone opportunities. With that in mind, we’ve been a little conservative with Tucker. He’s not a bad option when you’re drafting in the last round however, and kickers are such a crapshoot that at least this one is in no danger of losing his job.
