After years of bouncing around the league and trying to get his shot, Justin Forsett finally found a home in Baltimore, rushing for 1,266 yards last year and eight touchdowns as the city moved on from the disappointing end to Ray Rice’s tenure as the Ravens’ lead back. Forsett also averaged an astounding 5.4 yards per carry, tops among all running backs with at least 100 carries!
Fantasy Upside
Matt Forte was fourth in the league in receptions last year and he had over 1,000 yards on the ground as well in Marc Trestman’s offense. While Justin Forsett hasn't quite earned the right to be compared to Forte in talent, he is coming off a highly productive year and will be under Trestman this season. Forsett also has only second year back Lorenzo Taliaferro and rookie Buck Allen from USC to contend with for carries, meaning he should still be the main back in Baltimore, a team that traditionally makes their way running the football.
Fantasy Downside
Even though it’s a good system he’s getting into, Forsett is coming from a very running back friendly system last season under Gary Kubiak. He’ll be 30 in October and he’s coming off what was really his only significant fantasy season as a pro. The Ravens have two young players ready to take a stab at the job should Forsett falter, and the lack of a proven history behind him opens the door for some doubt over a repeat performance.
Bottom Line
Forsett will enter the season as the starter on a team that likes to run the ball, with a new offensive coordinator who makes excellent use out of talented running backs. That alone gives him an edge on most other running backs from a fantasy perspective, and owners should look to draft him right around his ADP spot in the back of the second round, and as long as he stays healthy, he has a very high floor this year based on his situation on the depth chart and the talent around him in Baltimore.
