BAL RB Justin Forsett - Week 1, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Denver

Last season, Justin Forsett had a breakout year for the Ravens and as a result, he enters the 2015 season as the unquestioned starting running back. Forsett will face a Broncos defense this week that was stout against the run a year ago, with only Detroit giving up fewer yards on the ground during the regular season, but is now missing run-stuffer Terrance Knighton on the defensive line.

Forsett should pick up right where he left off last season with a full workload and fantasy points that will make him a borderline RB1/RB2 kind of guy. Only time will tell if he can maintain his 5.4 yards per attempt average from last year, but as the clearer starter on a team that traditionally runs the ball a lot, Forsett is one of the safer options in fantasy as a plug-and-play starter.

BAL RB Justin Forsett - 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

After years of bouncing around the league and trying to get his shot, Justin Forsett finally found a home in Baltimore, rushing for 1,266 yards last year and eight touchdowns as the city moved on from the disappointing end to Ray Rice’s tenure as the Ravens’ lead back. Forsett also averaged an astounding 5.4 yards per carry, tops among all running backs with at least 100 carries!

Fantasy Upside
Matt Forte was fourth in the league in receptions last year and he had over 1,000 yards on the ground as well in Marc Trestman’s offense. While Justin Forsett hasn't quite earned the right to be compared to Forte in talent, he is coming off a highly productive year and will be under Trestman this season. Forsett also has only second year back Lorenzo Taliaferro and rookie Buck Allen from USC to contend with for carries, meaning he should still be the main back in Baltimore, a team that traditionally makes their way running the football.

Fantasy Downside
Even though it’s a good system he’s getting into, Forsett is coming from a very running back friendly system last season under Gary Kubiak. He’ll be 30 in October and he’s coming off what was really his only significant fantasy season as a pro. The Ravens have two young players ready to take a stab at the job should Forsett falter, and the lack of a proven history behind him opens the door for some doubt over a repeat performance.

Bottom Line
Forsett will enter the season as the starter on a team that likes to run the ball, with a new offensive coordinator who makes excellent use out of talented running backs. That alone gives him an edge on most other running backs from a fantasy perspective, and owners should look to draft him right around his ADP spot in the back of the second round, and as long as he stays healthy, he has a very high floor this year based on his situation on the depth chart and the talent around him in Baltimore.

BAL RB Justin Forsett - Week 19, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Divisional Round – Justin Forsett vs. New England

Justin Forsett had only 47 yards from scrimmage against the Steelers last week, but he touched the ball 17 times and should be in for another full workload against the Patriots in the Divisional Round this week.

The Pats were better against the run than against the pass this year, ranking just inside the top ten in rushing yards allowed to opposing teams in 2014. Forsett hasn’t lit the world on fire in recent weeks, but with a full workload ahead of him, he’s still one of the most valuable fantasy backs available for this round of the playoffs. We have him as a top five option, but a big step behind the four backs in front of him. If you can get him as your second back, you’re in good shape.

Additionally, with New England expected to win the game, this might be a good week to use Forsett in leagues where you can only use a player once throughout the playoffs.

BAL RB Justin Forsett - Week 18, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Wildcard Weekend – Justin Forsett vs. Pittsburgh

After a couple of down weeks, Justin Forsett finished the season strong against the Browns last week, with 17 carries and 119 yards, adding another 17 yards on a pair of receptions. He didn’t find the end zone, but finished the season fifth in the NFL with 1,266 rushing yards. Most astoundingly, he led all running backs by averaging 5.4 yards per carry this year.

This week, Forsett will face a tough Pittsburgh run defense that ranked sixth in the league in rushing yards allowed this year. However, with only eight starting running backs this week, and at least four of them in some sort of a timeshare, Forsett is a top five option for fantasy owners.

BAL RB Justin Forsett - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 – Justin Forsett vs. Cleveland

Justin Forsett had a bad game, like the rest of the Baltimore offense, against the Texans last week. He ended up with only 19 yards on 10 carries and added 13 more on four receptions. Not the kind of game fantasy owners were hoping for from Forsett.

This week, he should have an easier time against the Cleveland Browns, who have a nice pass defense but allow more rushing yards per game to opposing offenses than any other team in the league. He’s struggled so much lately, that it’s hard to consider him a solid RB1 anymore, but he should be good for RB2 numbers in a game the Ravens need to win.

BAL RB Justin Forsett - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 – Justin Forsett vs. Houston

Justin Forsett was held in check against the Jaguars last week, surprisingly averaging only 3.0 yards per carry on 16 attempts. The Ravens pulled out the victory, but 47 combined yards from scrimmage and no touchdowns hurt a lot of fantasy owners.

Forsett should get back on track this week against the Texans, who are an average team against the run this season. Forsett is still fifth in the league in rushing this year, and has been just what the doctor ordered for Gary Kubiak’s zone blocking scheme he brought in this year. Forsett is a borderline RB1 option on our board this week, and he should be active in all leagues.

BAL RB Justin Forsett - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 – Justin Forsett vs. Jacksonville

Justin Forsett had another nice game against the Dolphins last week. He only carried the ball 13 times, but averaged 5.5 yards per carry and caught two passes for a total of 78 yards from scrimmage and had a rushing touchdown, giving him a nice day overall for fantasy owners.

Forsett is third in the league in rushing and the Ravens keep feeding him, so he should do well against the Jaguars this week. Jacksonville is giving up over 133 yards per game on the ground and has allowed 14 touchdowns on the ground this season. Forsett should be considered a must start in all leagues as a RB1.
