Fantasy Impact: 

Apparently the Packers were not content with Starks's play in camp and against the Chargers last night. If Benson signs with the Packers, James Starks will become nearly undraftable.

Packers RB James Starks really needs to show up in the games. His practices aren't as good as they could be, and he seems to have regressed as a receiver. In front of the JUGS machine, Starks dropped two early in practice. Starks got a ton of snaps in practice Tuesday because Alex Green was resting his knee, and he showed some good moves. But it came without pads on. On Thursday, he needs to establish himself as the starter.

Packers beat writer Bob McGinn on RB James Starks: The Packers were looking for big things from James Starks in his third season. So far, they haven't seen it. Even though he has taken probably three times as many snaps as Alex Green, it has been Green who has been the more dynamic performer. The medical staff has limited Green's reps because of his reconstructive knee surgery Nov. 9. Starks hasn't made strides as a pass blocker or ball carrier. He just doesn't carry himself like a reliable, top-flight player.

Fantasy Impact: 

This is the first negative report we've heard about Starks this offseason; the reports have mostly been glowing. It's still early in camp, so this is probably nothing to worry about.

Without Ryan Grant, the Packers lead RB role presumably will go to James Starks, despite a troubling track record with injuries.

While Starks was a godsend on the Packers’ road to the Super Bowl XLV title in 2010, his lack of durability is a major issue.

The coaches also see big things for second-year running back Alex Green, who missed most of his rookie season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee suffered Oct. 23 at Minnesota, even though he’s unsure of whether he’ll be ready for the first practice of training camp on July 26.
