Scouting report

STL K Greg Zuerlein - Week 7, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7: Zuerlein vs. 49ers
Greg Zuerlein was 1-of-1 on field goals and 2-of-2 on extra point tries in the Rams’ Week 6 loss to the 49ers. Given how inconsistent St. Louis’ offense is, Zuerlein isn’t a steady fantasy starter and should be avoided in all leagues.

STL K Greg Zuerlein - Week 6, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6: Zuerlein vs. 49ers
Greg Zuerlein was a perfect 4-for-4 on extra point attempts in the Rams' Week 5 loss to the Eagles. While he certainly isn't a horrible option, Zuerlein just doesn't have much upside as a fantasy player. He ranks as our No. 25 overall kicker for Week 6 and should be avoided.

STL K Greg Zuerlein - Week 5, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5: Zuerlein vs. Eagles
Greg Zuerlein converted his lone field goal attempt and was 4-for-4 on extra point tries in the Rams' Week 3 loss to the Cowboys. St. Louis doesn't score enough for Zuerlein to be a reliable fantasy option and should remain on your waiver wire. He's our No. 19 overall fantasy kicker for Week 5.

STL K Greg Zuerlein - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3: Zuerlein vs. Cowboys
Greg Zuerlein was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goal attempts and 1-for-1 on extra point tries in the Rams' Week 2 win over the Bucs. Despite his production last week, he ranks as our No. 23 kicker for Week 3 as his scoring opportunities will remain sporadic. There are likely better options on your waiver wire if you need a kicker this week.

STL K Greg Zuerlein - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2: Zuerlein vs. Bucs
Greg Zuerlein converted on 2-of-3 field goal attempts for six points as the Rams fell to the Vikings 34-6. His lone miss was from 50 yards out but he did connect on a 56-yarder later in the game. Given the Rams' punchless offense and Zuerlein's continued struggles (he missed kicks in preseason as well), you can find better kicking options on your waiver wire if you're in need this week. He ranks as our No. 22 kicker for Week 2.

STL K Zuerlein Greg - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1: Zuerlein vs. Vikings
Greg Zuerlein has one of the stronger legs in the league and the Rams aren't afraid to give him opportunities at any distance (even at 59 yards, which is the distance he attempted at the conclusion of the team's first preseason game). But he also had an up-and-down preseason and plays for an offense that isn't very explosive. He ranks as our No. 17 fantasy kicker for Week 1 and there should be better options available on your waiver wire.

STL K Greg Zuerlein - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Zuerlein has one of the stronger legs in football and has the confidence of coach Jeff Fisher to attempt field goals of all distances. He already has eight made field goals of 50 yards or more in his first two years and while he's struggled during preseason, the Rams aren't too concerned. He's one of the better young kickers in the game.

Fantasy Downside
Through two preseason games Zuerlein is just 1-for-4 in field goal attempts, which includes a miss of 34 yards out. Of course, he's also 4-for-4 in extra point tries, which are 33 yards because of the NFL's experiment with harder PAT attempts. The Rams' offense has also proven to be inconsistent under OC Brian Schottenheimer, which could limit Zuerlein's potential.

Bottom Line
There's not much downside to Zuerlein; he just isn't a top 12 kicker at this point in his career. We currently rank him 18th among kickers so while he could be a nice waiver wire pickup at some point during the season, better options will be available during your draft.
