The offensive coaches have been raving about Jordy Nelson’s improvement this offseason, saying he’s playing faster, stronger and smarter. That has shown up in the third-year receiver’s play so far in training camp, most notably in Tuesday’s night practice.

With starting receiver Greg Jennings absent for what coach Mike McCarthy called personal reasons, Nelson took advantage of his additional snaps with the starters. He caught five passes in the team periods, including several tough touchdown catches in the red-zone drill.

Fantasy Impact: 

Jordy Nelson and James Jones will be an entire training camp battle. Look to preseason game performances for clarity.

James Jones & Jordy Nelson have had "outstanding" off-seasons. Jones may be most productive on the team.

Fantasy Impact: 

Donald Driver is 35 years old, battling knee issues, and did slow down in the final quarter of 2009. But assuming his injuries don't turn out to be more serious than expected Driver will easily be the #2 WR behind Greg Jennings. While James Jones and Jordy Nelson have upside, we hear these kinds of things out of Packers camp just about every year -- and every season Jones finds a way to disappoint (32/440 last year).

Donald Driver not only feels great after he had double arthroscopic knee surgeries back in January -- he wishes he had the procedure years ago.

Driver was at the New Berlin Ale House Thursday night to support Packers teammate Greg Jennings for a pre-golf party. The two men, along with numerous Packers, will spend all day Friday golfing for Jennings' major fundraiser for Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity and the Greg Jennings Foundation; the goal is to raise $150,000 to pay for two Habitat homes, one in Milwaukee and one in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Driver said he hadn’t told anyone other than the Packers staff that he was playing with limited range and flexibility as well as pain last year. It wasn’t until last Wednesday, when Packers coach Mike McCarthy admitted, when pressed, that Driver and Nick Barnett had both had knee scopes. Both players had been out of offseason practices and working with a group of rehabilitating players.

Fantasy Impact: 

Donald Driver must have a "fountain of youth" secretly hidden at his home. With the exception of last season (2nd half), his production has been consistent. However, at some point a drop-off should be expected. For now, he is a safe #3 WR in most fantasy formats.

Falcons look to improve YAC

Falcons WR Roddy White led the team with 392 yards after the catch last season, followed by Tony Gonzalez at 240. But White averaged just 4.6 after the catch and Gonzalez average just 2.9. Michael Jenkins had 126 yards after the catch, but averaged just 2.5 yards after the catch.

In 2008, Harry Douglas averaged 5.0 yards after the catch as a rookie.

For receivers with more than 50 catches last season, Dallas wide receiver Miles Austin led the league in YAC Average at 7.6 yards. Green Bay’s Greg Jennings was second at 7.1 and Philadelphia’s DeSean Jackson was third at 6.8.

For tight ends with more than 50 catches last season, San Diego’s Antonio Gates led the league in YAC average at 6.6. Philadelphia’s Brent Celek was second at 6.0 and Pittsburgh’s Heath Miller was third at 5.8.

Fantasy Impact: 

It's not a shock that most of those names among the leaders in YAC were at least very good fantasy players. Just something else to think about when putting together your rankings.
