The Falcons intend to utilize RB Jacquizz Rodgers more as a rusher and receiver in 2012 after he averaged five yards per touch in ’11. Rodgers showed more elusiveness as a receiver than he did as a rusher last season, averaging only 3.6 yards per carry. His longest gain — and only gain longer than 16 yards — came on a 31-yard touchdown reception in Week 14.

With featured back Michael Turner entering his first season over the age of 30, all indications are the team is serious about its intent to keep him on a pitch count. Backup Jason Snelling is able to pick up tough yards between the tackles while spelling Turner, and Rodgers could provide a dynamic element in the backfield. Any comparisons to Saints RB Darren Sproles would be premature, but Sproles’ role in New Orleans is similar to the one the Falcons envision for Rodgers.

Fantasy Impact: 

This has been a common theme throughout the offseason and it's only going to push Turner's value down even further. We're currently expecting a 10% drop in carries for Turner, but he's still a good bet for double-digit TDs, so he projects to be a very solid RB2. He should provide very good value in the 4th round.

Chargers WR Eddie Royal was miscast last season in a Broncos offense that turned to power-running signal-caller Tim Tebow. During workouts this week it was clear that he could become the safety valve that Rivers has missed since Darren Sproles left for New Orleans.

"He's a real smooth receiver," HC Norv Turner said. "He reminds me of Charlie Joiner, and reminds me of Henry Ellard, guys that I've been around. He's very deceptive. And sometimes he doesn't look like he's going that fast, and he's hauling."

Mikel Leshoure could be the key to the Lions' rushing game. Despite his offseason issues, despite being suspended for the first two games of the season and despite coming off Achilles surgery, Leshoure is the guy who can get the tough yards, who can break off big runs and can make plays with his hands.

If his recovery stays on course, he's the primary back the Lions have been missing. Jahvid Best, if he can put his concussion issues behind him, can finally play the Reggie Bush, Darren Sproles-type role the Lions always envisioned for him.

Don't sleep on Kevin Smith, either. Nobody ever questioned his talent and he's worked his tail off to get his career back. The football gods owe him at least one season of clean health, right?

Fantasy Impact: 

That pretty much sums up the Lions' RBBC heading into the 2012 season. Best has been running with the first team and holds value as long as he's upright. But his concussion history is worrisome.

New Orleans Saints tailback Mark Ingram described his recent arthroscopic knee surgery as "as minor as it gets." And he said he will be 100 percent healthy by the time training camp starts.

The surgery was on Ingram's right knee, not the left knee that Ingram had injured during his college career at Alabama. Ingram said he was experiencing some soreness in the knee.

"Just something, needed to have it fixed and went in and got it done," Ingram said. "A minor knee surgery, a little scope. As minor as it gets."

Ingram is also recovering from a more more significant surgery earlier in the offseason to repair a tendon in his big toe - the injury that ended his rookie season early last year. Despite the two surgeries, he expects to be full speed by next month.

Fantasy Impact: 

Darren Sproles is the RB to own in New Orleans, but Ingram has some upside given his current draft position in the middle rounds. Pierre Thomas rounds out the Saints' RBBC.
