Scouting report

TB TE Cade Otton - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Minnesota Vikings

Cade Otton had a decent rookie season, finishing 42-391-2 despite playing with Cameron Brate. Brate is now a free agent, which frees up some snaps for Otton. But Tom Brady is also gone, which isn't great for anyone in this offense. Overall, there's not a lot to be excited about when it comes to Otton. We'd avoid him in Week 1 vs. the Vikings.

TB TE Cade Otton - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Carolina Panthers

Tom Brady looked Cade Otton's way fairly often last week as the rookie tight end had seven targets. He just couldn't connect as Otton finished with two catches for 12 yards. Since Cameron Brate returned from injury in Week 10, Otton has averaged 2.7 receptions for 20.5 yards. That's just not enough to make him a trustworthy option in Week 17 against the Panthers (20th aFPA). He's outside of the top 20 tight ends this week.

TB TE Cade Otton - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Arizona Cardinals

Cade Otton saw just one target last week, catching one pass for 20 yards. Otton had some success earlier in the year when he was the only relevant tight end on the team. But with Cameron Brate healthy, the two tight ends make each other irrelevant for fantasy purposes. Otton is nothing more than a desperation play at TE for Week 16.

TB TE Cade Otton - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Cade Otton had an OK outing last week, catching four of his five targets for 28 yards. Fellow tight end Cameron Brate also saw four targets, catching two passes for 12 yards. Otton was a nice option while Brate was injured as he saw just a few more looks that gave him an extra boost in fantasy. But Brate being back in the lineup takes just enough away from Otton to put him in TE2 territory. Plus, he gets a tough matchup against the Bengals (4th aFPA) this week. Otton is outside of our top 20 tight ends for Week 15.

TB TE Cade Otton - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at San Francisco 49ers

Cade Otton saw 10 targets last week, which only trailed Chris Godwin (13) on the team. Otton finished 6-28-1 as he caught yet another clutch red zone touchdown. Otton getting 10 targets is interesting considering the week before he had 0 targets. We'll see what Otton can do in Week 14 in a tough matchup against the 49ers. San Francisco has allowed the fewest average fantasy points to opposing tight ends this season, including giving up just one touchdown to the position. Otton's sporadic usage and tough matchup makes him somewhat risky, but he offers more upside than most tight ends at this point in the season. He'll be a low-end TE1 option in Week 14.

TB TE Cade Otton - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. New Orleans Saints

Cade Otton played on 36 snaps last week (52%) but didn't see a single target. Instead, Cameron Brate had five targets while fellow tight end Ko Kieft ended up scoring a touchdown. Otton had some fantasy relevance with Brate inactive, but with both of them in the lineup, they kind of cancel each other out. Otton is outside our top 20 tight ends this week.

TB TE Cade Otton - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Cleveland Browns

Cameron Brate returned from injury in Week 10, but Cade Otton still had a solid role, finishing 3-35 on three targets. But Brate was also involved, catching one pass for eight yards on two targets. Otton also saw a little decrease in playing time, playing 61% of the offensive snaps after playing over 80% in the games where Brate was inactive. Otton will still be involved in this offense, but Brate might steal a couple of receptions, which really impacts someone who only averages about three catches a game. With Brate back, we wouldn't trust Otton.
