Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back, questionable) missed practice all week and is questionable for Week 9. Owner Jerry Jones said that the injury is a “function of pain tolerance,” and that it would come down to a game-time decision. Jason Garrett says he’s optimistic about Romo’s availability, though OC Scott Linehan said that “it’s rare” for a quarterback to play without having practiced all week. The Cowboys play early on Sunday, though we would shy away from using Romo since one hard hit could knock him out of the game. Brandon Weeden should post decent numbers if he gets the start.

Two days after suffering a painful contusion to his lower back in the 20-17 overtime loss to the Washington Redskins, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo remains in limbo for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals.

The good news, according to owner Jerry Jones, is that Romo didn’t suffer a season-ending injury, per results of a CT scan on Tuesday.

But Jones acknowledges Romo’s status remains in doubt because of questions concerning his pain tolerance and ability to function with the injury.

Jones said it will likely come down to a game-time decision.

Fantasy Impact: 

Given the variety of weapons at his disposal, Brandon Weeden would be a Sneaky Start if Romo can't play. The Cardinals have been so-so against quarterbacks this year, checking in with the #15 QB aFPA through eight weeks.

Fantasy Impact: 

Romo's back is a concern and it's underlined by Gosselin's comments about how he's been moving in practice. If Romo goes down, Brandon Weeden would be a decent stopgap option in Scott Linehan's offense.

Cowboys WR Dez Bryant has certainly looked like one of the NFL’s best receivers throughout training camp and during his two series of work Saturday night against Baltimore. He caught three passes for 59 yards and a touchdown during the first quarter.

Coming off his first Pro Bowl season, Bryant looks even better entering his fifth year in the league.

So what does Bryant need to work on?

“Oh, everything,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett responded.

Garrett then mentioned a play on the game’s opening series where Bryant ran a bad route. Bryant went deep along the visiting sideline and failed to make the catch. The play was called back because of holding on left tackle Tryon Smith.

Fantasy Impact: 

Bryant has done nothing but gain positive reviews since camp started and is proving his worth as a late first round draft pick in typical leagues this year. The only worry with Bryant is if QB Tony Romo can stay healthy. QB2 Brandon Weeden has proved to be inconsistent so far and would be a huge dropoff.
