Scouting report

SF RB Alfred Morris - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Los Angeles Chargers

Alfred Morris scored a touchdown to go with 67 yards on 14 carries against the Chiefs last week. It was good to see Morris average 4.8 yards per carry, after averaging a mere 3.3 over his first two games. Morris is getting 14 touches per game, which should continue as he maintains his workload as the team's two-down back. He also gets goal-line touches.

This is a tough week to count on Morris, as the Chargers are likely to run the score up on the 49ers, forcing C.J. Beathard to throw the ball. Morris may also face more loaded boxes moving forward with Jimmy Garoppolo out for the rest of the season. Morris is a low-end standard league or touchdown-only league option in deep formats, but generally should be avoided this week against the Chargers.

SF RB Alfred Morris - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Kansas City Chiefs

It’s good to see Alfred Morris getting carries—12 in Week 1 and 14 last week—but he’s averaging only 3.3 yards per carry and seems relegated to two-down work in a time-share with the explosive Matt Breida. Morris did catch a pair of passes for 32 yards last week against the Lions, but that’s likely to be the exception, not the norm, for the veteran.

This week, Morris will face a Chiefs defense that has given up the second-most fantasy points to the running back position through the first two games of the season, but most of that has been in the passing game. With the Chiefs offense likely to score fast and often, Morris’ touches may not be plentiful, making him a risky option in most leagues. He has some low-end RB3 value in standard league formats, but fantasy owners should look elsewhere this week if possible.

SF RB Alfred Morris - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Detroit Lions

Alfred Morris had 12 carries last week, splitting time with Matt Breida in the 49ers backfield. However, he only averaged 3.2 yards per carry against a stifling Vikings defense. Morris should continue to get two-down work, but his usage may slip if his effectiveness doesn’t improve.

This week, Morris faces a Lions defense that gave up 102 yards and two touchdowns to Isaiah Crowell in Week 1. The Lions should be better this week after a terrible start to the season, but the opportunity may be there for Morris to do some damage as an RB3 type of player.

SF RB Alfred Morris - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Minnesota Vikings

An afterthought for much of the offseason, Alfred Morris was signed during the preseason as a temporary stand-in for an ailing backfield. He impressed, however, and when Jerick McKinnon tore his ACL last week, Morris returned to fantasy relevance. He should split work with Matt Breida this season, giving him value in standard league formats, but this may not be the best week to start him. The Vikings were the best defense in the league last year against the running back position and they look to be dominant again this season. Morris has low-end value in standard leagues, but fantasy owners should look elsewhere if possible.

DAL RB Alfred Morris - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Oakland Raiders

Alfred Morris now has 49 touches in the last two games and has produced 212 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown. No doubt Morris is the first option to run the football, but backup Rod Smith is seeing plenty of snaps as well.

Morris will face the Raiders this week, who are ranked 26th in aFPA to running backs. The Smith factor is huge because it is taking Morris off the field. Even with Morris' recent success and a very good matchup, we see him as a high-end FLEX or RB3 for Week 15.

DAL RB Alfred Morris - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at New York Giants

Alfred Morris had a monster day rushing for 127 yards and a touchdown against his former team. The 27 carries was even a bigger number as Cowboys coaches showed they are confident to give Morris the touches.

The Cowboys face the Giants this week, who are ranked 29th in aFPA to running backs. But even with a good matchup, there are still questions about the entire Dallas offense. It has been inconsistent since the Ezekiel Elliott suspension started. Morris should be in your lineup, but only as a low-end RB2 for Week 14.

DAL RB Alfred Morris - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Washington Redskins

Alfred Morris was not on the field as much as teammate Rod Smith but he basically had equal touches. The two backs are splitting time with Ezekiel Elliot suspended. Morris ended up with 49 yards from scrimmage last week but zero touchdowns.

The Cowboys face the Redskins who are 14th in aFPA to running backs. Morris carried the three times for 3 yards in the first meeting as Elliot's backup. Morris has some value for Week 13 but only as a RB3 or flex.
