Waiver Wire Watch: Week 16
By John Paulsen, Contributing Editor
The fantasy season is winding down, but that doesn't mean that owners can stop working the waiver wire. Injuries still strike -- just ask Willis McGahee (leg), Steve Johnson (groin), DeSean Jackson (elbow), A.J. Green (shoulder), Jake Ballard (knee), Roy Helu (leg) and especially Johnny Knox, who will undergo surgery today to stabilize a vertebra in his back after being twisted awkwardly against the Seahawks on Sunday.
Teams that are still alive in the fantasy playoffs probably have the depth required to weather the loss of a player, but just in case, let's highlight a few of the top waiver wire pickups for Week 16.
Moore has been decent of late, throwing eight TDs in his last five games. With a matchup against the Patriots' generous pass defense in Week 16, he's a tantalizing spot start for owners in need.
Locker has been great in relief of Matt Hasselbeck over the past two weeks. Against the Saints in Week 14, he entered the game in the second quarter and finished with 282 yards passing and a TD. He took over in the middle of the fourth quarter against the Colts and racked up 108 yards and a TD on two drives. If the Titans hand him the keys in Week 16, he could have a nice day against a banged up Jacksonville secondary.
The Raiders have given up the 6th-most Adjusted FP to QBs this season and were torched by Matthew Stafford to the tune of 391 yards and four TDs. Orton is no Stafford, but he's capable of putting up decent numbers against this defense.
Texans QB Taylor Yates
Yates was picked off twice against the Bengals, but with a tasty matchup against the Colts in Week 16, he wouldn't be a bad start for owners desperate at QB.
