Week 6 Sunday Night Football features perennial contenders in their respective conferences as the Kansas City Chiefs host the Detroit Lions. Each team has diverged somewhat from preseason expectations. Many projected a step back for the Lions after both coordinators departed for head-coaching jobs. That hasn’t materialized—Detroit enters with the best record and highest point differential in the NFC. The Chiefs, meanwhile, haven’t quite found their footing. The perennial contenders—participants in five of the last six Super Bowls—don’t look like the team we’re used to, one that traditionally pairs sound defense with an exceptional offense en route to elite regular-season win totals and deep playoff runs. They’re 2–3 so far with a tough matchup this week.
