Streaming Defenses: Week 15 Targets

As discussed previously, we are rolling out a new-and-improved model this season for projecting fantasy defenses. This model focuses on the most predictable elements of defense scoring: points allowed, sacks and interceptions. To project points in each of those areas, we rely on the Vegas lines, quarterback history of interceptions and the offensive and defense history of producing sacks. Below, we will look at what those elements say for Week 15.

Looking Backward

Our top pick, the Packers, delivered a solid result. They were above our expectation in sacks, slightly below in INTs and right on expectation for points allowed. The total points of seven were quite close to our expectation of 8.5.

The Texans, our second pick, were the big underperformer last week. They came slightly under in both sacks and interceptions, but the big failure was in points allowed: the Texans gave up 38 points, while Vegas expected only 16. That left them with a negative point total from the predictable elements.

Our third pick, the Cowboys, also underperformed, though by not nearly so much. They were close to projections in sacks and interceptions, but again allowed more points than expected: 31 versus 20. Overall, they still ended up with three points from the predictable elements, which is less than the 5.5 we expected, but not crushingly so.
