Week 1 vs. Minnesota
Davis has been a fantasy dud since Colin Kaepernick took over at QB for the 49ers. Last season, he reached six targets in a game just twice and had seven games where he got three or fewer. That's not fantasy starting material. With all teams playing this week, Davis should not be in your starting lineup.
Fantasy Upside
Davis remains the starting tight end in San Francisco (for what that is worth).
Fantasy Downside
Davis managed to be targeted just 50 times last season and had just 26(!) catches. He has been largely forgotten since Colin Kaepernick became the 49ers QB.
Bottom line
Davis is going largely undrafted in most fantasy leagues and for good reason. At this point in his career, he has fallen off the face of the Earth and his photo should be on milk cartons. Davis is still talented, but if the 49ers aren't going to use him, what good is he?
Vernon Davis Week 17 vs. Cardinals
Not only did Vernon Davis not catch a pass last week despite playing every offensive snap, he didn't get a single target! You can't catch passes that aren't thrown to you and Davis isn't getting anything. Look elsewhere for help.
Vernon Davis Week 16 vs. Chargers
Vernon Davis is probably the clear-cut winner of the fantasy football dud of the season. He failed to catch a pass last week, continuing a forgettable season. There's no reason for him to be anywhere near your lineup.
Vernon Davis Week 15 vs. Seattle
Perhaps Colin Kaepernick wouldn't be struggling so much if he remembered that Vernon Davis is threat at tight end. Davis had his most yards last week since Week 6. But it was just 26 yards on two receptions. Seattle has allowed 11 TD passes to opposing tight ends this season, but Davis hasn't scored since Week 1. Ugh.
Vernon Davis Week 14 vs. Raiders
Nothing new here as Vernon Davis had just two catches for 13 yards last week. This is a guy who had 13 touchdowns last season. But he hasn't scored since catching two TD passes in Week 1. There's nothing to suggest anything is going to change for Davis.
Vernon Davis Week 13 vs. Seahawks
How bad has Vernon Davis been? His three catches for 21 yards last week look like a big game. The milk cartons on which Davis' face should appear in the San Francisco area have been more valuable in fantasy football this season.
Vernon Davis Week 12 vs. Redskins
What was worse than Vernon Davis' Week 10 production of one catch for eight yards? Last week's performance of one for seven. It's a shame he has seemingly once again become the forgotten man. His talent level is too high and most certainly doesn't match this season's production. On the plus side, he did have five targets last week, so there's hope if you're desperate.
Vernon Davis Week 11 vs. Giants
It's time to put out a missing person's report on Vernon Davis. He had just one catch for eight yards last week and hasn't scored since reaching the end zone twice in Week 1. Injuries have hurt his production, but he's not getting a lot of looks, either. But the Giants have allowed six tight end touchdowns in the past four games. It's now or never for Davis, but there's probably a better option available on your waiver wire.
Vernon Davis Week 10 vs. Saints
Boy, if you drafted Vernon Davis high this season, you're dreadfully disappointed. He had just two catches for 19 yards last week and not only isn't getting receptions, he's not even getting looks. Davis is on pace for just 52 targets this season. New Orleans has been very tough on opposing tight ends this season, allowing just two games of 50 or more yards and one touchdown to tight ends all season. It's past time to start exploring other options.
