PIT WR James Washington - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Kansas City Chiefs

As I told you last week, tap the brakes a little on the James Washington hype train. He saw just 11 snaps last week and wasn't targeted once. Also, Justin Hunter saw four times as much playing time. Washington's playing time should grow each week, but keep your expectations in check for now.

Week 1 at Cleveland Browns

Don't be quick to put James Washington in your lineup this week. He missed some time late in training camp and could be a week or two away from wresting the No. 3 job away from Darrius Heyward-Bey.

PIT WR James Washington - 2018 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

James Washington was selected in the second round of the draft to essentially be Martavis Bryant's replacement. Considering Bryant caught 50 passes in this offense last season, that puts the rookie in a pretty good spot.

Fantasy Downside

Washington isn't guaranteed to win the job, though the Steelers have had a lot of success drafting receivers.

2018 Bottom Line

Even if he does settle into the No. 3 role, the expectation is that Vance McDonald will make up a lot of the gap gone from Bryant's departure. And, at best, Washington is probably then the fourth or fifth option in this offense. That could mean a good game here or there, but the consistency is going to be lacking. His current ADP has him going in rounds 17 through 21, so you're not going to have to overdraft him. But his upside is very limited.
