CAR RB Fozzy Whittaker - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fozzy Whitaker is a versatile back out of Texas who had a couple good carries for the Browns last season in spot duty behind Willis McGahee. He finished with only 79 yards on the ground, but he caught 21 balls in limited work and scored two touchdowns receiving in the process.

Fantasy Upside
Whitaker is going to be vying for the backup to the backup role in Carolina behind aging DeAngelo Williams and oft-injured Jonathan Stewart. If he can make the roster (and things are looking better for him after the Panthers traded away Kenjon Barner), then Whitaker has some upside as a stash away player in large leagues.

Fantasy Downside
Until the two guys ahead of him actually get injured, Whitaker is not likely to see much work, and he’s also not guaranteed to make the roster. Those are pretty big factors when evaluating whether a fantasy owner should waste a draft pick on the second year back.

Bottom Line
Whitaker should be picked up and stashed the moment one of the top two backs in Carolina gets hurt, just in case the other guy gets hurt too and Whitaker takes over a starting role. He should not be picked up before then however.
