HOU RB Donta Foreman - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Los Angeles Rams

After not seeing a carry in Week 8, Donta Foreman was back on the field last Sunday versus the Colts, backing up Lamar Miller. In the loss, the rookie actually had more carries than Miller (11 to 10), but was held to just 37 yards. It’s no surprise the Texans offense has dropped off with the change in QB to Tom Savage. Foreman should not be started this week against a tough Rams defense allowing less than 20 points per game.

HOU RB Donta Foreman - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Indianapolis Colts

It was Alfred Blue and not Donta Foreman who was used to spell Lamar Miller last Sunday at Seattle. The rookie was on the field for just 1 snap and did not receive a carry, after walking out of practice two days before the game. While Coach Bill O’Brien did not say Foreman’s lack of playing time was related to the incident, you have to believe there’s more to the story. Assuming he says and does the right things this week, Foreman will have a good opportunity for a strong outing against an Indianapolis defense ranked 19th versus the run. Be sure to monitor his status during the week.

HOU RB Donta Foreman - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Seattle Seahawks

In the blowout of Cleveland two weeks ago, Donta Foreman led the Texans with 59 rushing yards, on 12 carries. He just missed scoring on a long run that would’ve resulted in his first NFL TD. The rookie has been a nice complement to starter Lamar Miller and will continue to receive around 10 touches per game. Even though Seattle’s run defense has had its issues this season, Foreman should only be started if you’re desperate.

Week 6 vs. Cleveland Browns

Despite losing a fumble to the Chiefs last Sunday night, Donta Foreman continued to receive touches and ended up posting 37 total yards. He carried the ball 4 times and caught a 3-yard pass. The Browns defense is yielding just 77 rushing yards per game, and with Lamar Miller remaining the top RB for the Texans for the foreseeable future, there is no reason for Foreman to be in your starting lineup.

HOU RB Donta Foreman - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Lamar Miller received 19 carries last week in the blasting of the Titans, but, with the game in hand, Donta Foreman was given a career-high 13 carries for 45 yards. Miller will remain the featured back, which will lead to more touches for him, but Foreman has been impressive during his playing time. However, Foreman is not getting enough action in the close games, so leave him on your bench.

HOU RB Donta Foreman - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Tennessee Titans

While Lamar Miller continues to be the featured ball carrier for the Texans, D’Onta Foreman is making his presence known in the passing game. In addition to his 8 carries for 25 yards last week in a heartbreaking loss to the Patriots, the rookie was targeted 3 times by Deshaun Watson, leading to 2 grabs for 65 yards. In the past two contests, Foreman has 130 total yards from scrimmage and may start cutting into Miller’s touches. The Titans have been stingy against the run in their first three games, yielding 92 yards per game on the ground, so you may want to wait at least another week before looking at adding Foreman to your starting lineup.

HOU RB Donta Foreman - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at New England Patriots

After playing just two snaps in the season opener, D’Onta Foreman had a considerable change in playing time last Thursday versus the Bengals—carrying the ball 12 times for 40 yards. While he was much more effective during the first half (8 rushes for 37 yards), the fact Foreman significantly ate into Lamar Miller’s touches is something to watch. Keep the former Texas Longhorn on your bench this week at New England, but he may be worth adding to your roster in the coming weeks.

Fantasy Upside

D'Onta Foreman was a little behind the curve in terms of being 100 percent ready upon arrival in Houston. In other words, the youngster showed up in less-than-ideal condition. Of course, training camp will be the real test. Despite his collegiate success and combination of size, strength and 4.45 speed in the 40-yard dash, Foreman watched as seven running backs were drafted ahead of him this spring. The Texans did invest a third-round pick after Foreman proved he could shoulder a heavy workload last season, carrying the football 323 times and averaging an impressive 6.3 yards per carry. Foreman has impressive leg drive, vision and athleticism. He has a lot of wiggle in the open field for such a big man. Whether Foreman can provide a receiving threat out of the backfield remains to be seen, but his initial role in Houston will simply be to work behind starter Lamar Miller, who HC Bill O'Brien felt was overworked last season. That could lead to immediate goal-line and short-yardage work for Foreman. Which might be more of a problem for Miller owners than a plus for the rookie.

Fantasy Downside

Foreman was arrested on weapons and marijuana charges the second week of July. It sounds like he may well be exonerated, but go ahead and assume the off-field trouble combined with his poor conditioning upon arrival leave the newcomer in a bit of a Hole with .

2017 Bottom Line

The Texans have a loaded depth chart at running back, with veterans Alfred Blue, Tyler Ervin and the speedy Akeem Hunt in the mix behind Miller, but Foreman appears to have the ability to contribute immediately and early training camp performances have been promising. Remember, in O'Brien's first three seasons as coach, the Texans have run the ball more than any team in the league.
