DEN QB Brock Osweiler - Week 15, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Pittsburgh
With the ground game not helping out last week in the loss to the Raiders, Brock Osweiler threw the ball 51 times for 308 yards, but no TDs and he was sacked five times. The rushing attack managed only 34 yards on 21 carries, so Brock was forced to pass a lot more than what was scripted in the game plan. While the yardage was a career-high, it could’ve been even more if it weren’t for some key drops. Even though Osweiler started at Chicago last month, going to Pittsburgh will be his first real road test in front of a hostile crowd. The Steelers defense is second worst against the pass, but No. 17 will definitely be challenged.

DEN QB Brock Osweiler - Week 14, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Oakland
After a relatively easy touchdown drive to open the contest last week at San Diego, Brock Osweiler and the Broncos played it pretty conservatively the rest of the way and let their defense take care of the Chargers. Brock finished 16-of-26 for 166 yards with a three-yard TD toss to Demaryius Thomas and one interception. This week Osweiler may be asked to do a bit more against an Oakland defense that is giving up over 270 passing yards per game. Consider him a QB2 play at home.

DEN QB Brock Osweiler - Week 13, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at San Diego
In the snowy conditions last Sunday night against the Patriots, Brock Osweiler threw for 270 yards with one TD and one tipped INT. While he missed on some passes, he didn’t get much help from Demaryius Thomas, who caught just one of his 13 targets. In his two NFL starts, Brocks’ thrown for 520 yards and three touchdowns. Peyton Manning will be out at least this week, so Osweiler will get another chance to show that he should remain the starter for the remainder of the season. He’s facing a San Diego defense that is No. 22 against the pass, but he's still more of a QB2 play.

DEN QB Brock Osweiler - Week 12, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. New England
In his first NFL start last week in Chicago, Brock Osweiler did exactly what HC Gary Kubiak wanted him to do – manage the game, bootleg, find his TEs and don’t turn the ball over. Even though he was sacked five times in the win, Brock finished 20-of-27 for 250 and two TDs – and he did it without one of his starting WRs in Emmanuel Sanders, who could be out again. On Sunday night against the Patriots, you can bet Bill Belichick will work with his defense to try to confuse the new QB. However, even if the ground game is clicking, Osweiler makes for a QB2 play against a New England defense that gives up over 250 passing yards per game.

DEN QB Brock Osweiler - Week 11, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Chicago
With Peyton Manning out, Brock Osweiler finally gets to show what he can do during meaningful playing time. The 6’8” QB has been holding the clipboard for most of his four years as a pro, but will be get the start against his former HC and OC on Sunday. In a quarter-and-a-half last week in the loss to the Chiefs, Brock went 14-of-24 for 146 yards with one TD and one INT. You can bet the Bears defense, which allows just 217 passing yards per game, will throw all kinds of different looks at Osweiler. He should only be started if you’re out of other options.

DEN QB Brock Osweiler - 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Probably the best part about the fourth year QB is that he hasn’t taken many hits in the NFL. The former second-round pick out of Arizona State has thrown just 30 regular season passes, including his lone TD toss last year versus Oakland in the season finale. The tallest QB in the league at 6’ 8”, Brock Osweiler will have plenty of opportunities to improve his game during training camp and the preseason, as the Broncos plan to rest Peyton Manning to help him get ready for the playoff push at the end of the year.

Fantasy Downside
Despite his age, Peyton Manning doesn’t miss much, if any, regular season action, so the chances of Osweiler seeing any meaningful action in ’15 are slim. While he’s had good moments in previous preseason contests, Brock just hasn’t been on the field enough to show his skills.

Bottom Line
The only reason to even consider having him on your fantasy roster is as a handcuff to Peyton in very deep leagues or in dynasty formats for when Manning decides to hang ‘em up.

DEN QB Brock Osweiler - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Once again, Brock Osweiler will be the top clipboard holder in the NFL and virtually nobody wants to see him on the field for meaningful action, at least not this season. The 23-year-old enters his third professional season and will wait his turn behind one of the best ever in Peyton Manning. Brock has a strong arm and moves pretty well for a 6’8” QB, but in his first two years he’s thrown just 20 regular season passes, completing 13 of them. However, Manning is 38 and is still only a hit away from passing the torch to Osweiler, who would inherit a very good WR group.

Fantasy Downside
The only real action Brock has seen in his first two years was the second half of the regular season finally at Oakland last season after Manning set the NFL passing record. He performed well in the blowout, throwing for 85 yards on 13 attempts, but still has some work to do with his throwing mechanics.

Bottom Line
While Osweiler is the Broncos No. 2 QBs depth chart, barring a big injury to Manning, he shouldn’t see any important playing time. The only reason to consider having him on your fantasy roster is if you own Peyton and have pretty much unlimited roster spots.
