OAK WR Brice Butler - Week 10, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 – Brice Butler vs. Denver Broncos
Brice Butler scored a touchdown during Oakland’s Week 9 loss to Seattle, but it came on special teams as he recovered a blocked punt. On offense, Butler had just two receptions for 20 yards. Unless he gets a larger opportunity at some point, Butler will not be in a position to help fantasy owners.

Week 9 – Brice Butler at Seattle Seahawks
After a couple of productive weeks, Brice Butler took a dive in the deep end of the pool last Sunday, catching one pass for nine yards. While Brice has proven to be a credible player, he is going to struggle against Seattle's Legion of Boom.

OAK WR Brice Butler - Week 8, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 – Brice Butler at Cleveland Browns
Brice Butler had just one catch in Oakland’s 24-13 loss to Arizona, but at least it was for a 55-yard gain. Over the past two weeks, Butler has shown enough to prove he belongs on an NFL roster, but as a role player behind Andre Holmes and James Jones, he is not getting enough volume to help fantasy teams. He is a name to file away, but nothing more.

OAK WR Brice Butler - Week 7, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 – Brice Butler vs. Arizona Cardinals
Brice Butler turned in a nice performance in a narrow loss to San Diego, catching three passes for 64 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately for Brice’s fantasy stock, he is behind Andre Holmes and James Jones on the Oakland depth chart. While Butler would become more interesting if something happened to Holmes or Jones, he is not worth a roster spot at this stage of the game.

Week 6 – Brice Butler vs. San Diego Chargers
With Denarius Moore in the outhouse, Brice Butler has seen an increase in playing time. However, Butler has just three catches for 28 yards. He won’t be helping any fantasy teams record a win this week.

Brice Butler2014 Season Outlook

As a rookie out of San Diego State, Brice Butler had a quiet season last year, catching nine passes for 103 yards. He has looked promising during the preseason, leading Oakland in receiving with 11 receptions for 178 yards and three touchdowns. Will that promise carry over to the regular season?

2014 Upside

Bad teams such as the Raiders often fall behind, enabling their receivers to pick up points during garbage time. Butler, like many players before him, ought to be better now that he has a year of experience under his belt. Veteran James Jones was signed by the Raiders after seven years in Green Bay. While his main contributions will be on the field, Jones will provide a mentor that young receivers such as Butler did not have previously.

2014 Downside

Right now, Brice is behind several players on the depth chart, including Jones and Rod Streater, who has developed into a fairly reliable player. It’s certainly feasible Butler could move ahead of the inconsistent likes of Denarius Moore, Andre Holmes, and especially Greg Little (who really shouldn’t even be in the league anymore), but a backup receiver on the Raiders has zero fantasy value.

Bottom Line

Butler needs a lot of breaks to make an impact. Even if those breaks happen, none of the Oakland receivers are going to be fantasy standouts. He will probably languish on the waiver wire throughout the season.
