Scouting report

PHI WR Jordan Matthews - Week 10, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Atlanta
Jordan Matthews has put together back to back productive fantasy weeks, including a 6-88-0 line on 10 targets last week against the Giants. This followed an 11-65-1 line the week before against the Cowboys.

The Eagles aired it out a bit more than we've seen all season compared to the dink and dunk offense that's gone on much of the rest of the year - that's at least some good news for the rest of the season for owners of anyone in this passing game. Matthews gets a pretty good rank this week, coming in 17th on our WR list which makes him a mid-range WR2. The Falcons are just 25th in allowing fantasy points to WRs, but the Eagles say they would like to run the ball a bit more after having Carson Wentz throw a total of 90 times the past two weeks. Matthews is by far the most dependable WR on the team so he should continue to get the targets. He's averaged 12 the past two weeks.

PHI WR Jordan Matthews - Week 9, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at New York Giants
Jordan Matthews rebounded with a nice game last week, catching 11 passes for 65 yards and a TD on 14 targets. Those are the kind of numbers Matthews owners are more used to, at least from last year and early this season.

It's the most receptions he's had all year and the 14 targets tied a season high from Week 1. Matthews always seems to play well against Dallas, and this week gets the Giants, who are 11th in allowing fantasy points to WRs. Matthews has had some pretty good games against the Giants over the past two years and is averaging over six catches, 67 yards and .75 TDs a game in that span on over 10 targets game. Matthews continues to be the team's best WR, however, the team is only using a short passing game right now, and Matthews had just 5.91 YPR last week. You may not be able to count on high yardage totals right now, so Matthews seems better suited for PPR leagues.

PHI WR Jordan Matthews - Week 8, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Dallas
The struggles continued for Jordan Matthews last week as he only caught three balls for 10 yards on just four targets. After collecting 23 targets over the first two games, Matthews has a total of 18 over the last four games. Matthews also played in a season-low 77-percent of the snaps.

This week's matchup is a little better against the Cowboys, a team Matthews had great success against last year with a two-game total of 15-213-2 with 21 targets. Dallas is 15th in allowing fantasy points to WRs, so despite a down performance last week, Matthews should probably be in lineups as a WR3 based on his success in the recent past.

PHI WR Jordan Matthews - Week 7, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Minnesota
Jordan Matthews caught just three balls, but turned that into 75 receiving yards last week. Most of it came on a big play in which Matthews fought through coverage to make a nice grab on a perfectly thrown ball. Outside of that, the Eagles passing game was held in check against the Redskins.

Matthews is ranked just 35th on our PPR receiving list this week. It's a bad matchup against the Vikings, who are second in allowing fantasy points to WRs. Matthews is still a WR3 option but certainly comes with risks giving the matchup against a strong defense. If you have an option with a better matchup, maybe you should think about sitting Matthews this week. The Birds losing RT Lane Johnson certainly seemed to affect QB Carson Wentz's timing and hindered the entire passing game.

PHI WR Jordan Matthews - Week 6, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Washington
Jordan Matthews caught four balls for 65 yards last week. He was targeted just four times last week.

Strangely, Matthews has just seven total targets over his last two games when he had a total of 23 the first two games. QB Carson Wentz seems to be spreading the ball around more as eight different Eagles caught passes last week. This week it's the Redskins who are 18th in allowing fantasy points to WRs. It's an average matchup but Matthew is still a lower-end WR2 or higher-end WR3 option on our list. The Birds are expected to use a heavy dose of the run this week as the Skins defense is 29th in allowing fantasy points to RBs. This may cap Matthews' fantasy value, but he's still a pretty safe start with at least 65 receiving yards or a TD in every game so far this season.

PHI WR Jordan Matthews - Week 5, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Detroit
Back in Week 3, Jordan Matthews caught just two passes for 19 yards. Luckily, one of them was a TD catch that helped to salvage what wasn't a great fantasy game for owners.

Despite a big day by QB Carson Wentz, the WRs weren't involved a whole lot as a total of 12 receptions went to Darren Sproles and Brent Celek. Matthews came into the game averaging almost 12 targets a game, but only saw three last week. Matthews is still the team's top WR threat and should continue to get his targets and catches. Matthews has a real nice matchup this week against the Lions, who are at the bottom of the league in terms of giving points to WRs.

PHI WR Jordan Matthews - Week 3, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Pittsburgh
If not for a dropped potential long TD catch, Jordan Matthews Week 2 numbers of 6-71-0 (9) may have been closer to his Week 1 numbers of 7-114-1 (14). Drops have hurt Matthews through his early career so far, and this season it's been a little of the same.

Nevertheless, Matthews is the team's top WR and will likely be targeted the most in a majority of the games. This week, he's ranked 22nd in standard leagues and is more of a lower-end WR2 option. The good news is it's a great matchup as the Steelers are just 31st in allowing fantasy points to the position. At some point, I would expect the Eagles to have to keep pace or play catchup against Pittsburgh, so Matthews should be a good play this week and someone who could out-shine his fantasy ranking as a result.
