Scouting report

by Dale Lolley

SF TE Garrett Celek - Week 5, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Arizona
Celek had five catches for 79 yards last week in something of a career day. But Arizona hasn't allowed more than five TE catches or 52 yards in a game this season. Vance McDonald also could return this week, which would further limit Celek's effectiveness. Take a pass on him.

SF TE Garrett Celek - Week 4, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Dallas
With Vance McDonald out last week, Celek caught three passes for 25 yards in a stinker for the 49ers passing game at Seattle. Dallas has already given up three TD catches to opposing tight ends this season, meaning Celek could be a sneaky start - if he gets over the back injury that troubled him in practice this week.

SF TE Garrett Celek - Week 12, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Arizona
Celek had two catches for 35 yards last week, but failed to follow up on his two-touchdown game the previous week. Still, all three of Blaine Gabbert's touchdown passes in his two weeks of starting have gone to tight ends, and Arizona has allowed three TE TD passes in the past three games. It's still a tough call to put Celek in the lineup, however, given Celek's lack of volume.

SF TE Garrett Celek - Week 11, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Seattle
If there's a 49ers player you might consider starting this week, it's Celek. He had just two receptions the last time out, but both went for touchdowns. Seattle has allowed eight touchdowns to opposing tight ends this season. Celek's value will depend on scoring and Blaine Gabbert, however.

SF TE Garrett Celek - Week 9, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Atlanta
With Vernon Davis now gone, Celek takes over as the No. 1 tight end in San Francisco. While that sounds nice, Blaine Gabbert is now the 49ers quarterback so Celek isn't somebody you want in your lineup.

SF TE Garrett Celek - Week 6, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Baltimore
Celek has had exactly three catches in all but one game this season and had a 3-26-1 line last week, scoring for the first time this season. If Vernon Davis is out again this week, his value takes a shot. But remember, Cleveland's tight ends hit the Ravens for a line of 10-152-1 last week. Celek isn't likely to mimic that, but he could be a decent bye-week start.

SF TE Garrett Celek - Week 5, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Giants
Celek has had three catches in three of four games, including three for 29 yards last week. But Vernon Davis could be back this week. While Celek leads the 49ers in catches among tight ends, Davis is obviously the better play if he is capable of suiting up. Three of the six passing touchdowns the Giants have allowed this season have come from tight ends.
