Week 12 vs. Chicago Bears
After missing last Sunday’s win over the Panthers with a knee injury, Marvin Jones is hopeful to be back for the Thanksgiving rematch with the Bears. Before leaving with the game a week-and-a-half ago against the Bears, Jones snagged three balls for 55 yards. Be sure to check his status for Thursday’s contest, but he’s no more than a WR3/flex option.
Week 11 vs. Carolina Panthers
Even though Matthew Stafford attempted 42 passes last week at Chicago, Marvin Jones caught only three balls for 55 yards before leaving in the third quarter with a knee bone bruise. Kenny Golladay led the way with 13 targets and scored the lone WR TD in the loss. Facing a couple tough defenses on the road the past two weeks, Jones has been held out of the end zone but has a good matchup at home versus the Panthers on Sunday. Carolina allowed over 300 yards and five touchdown tosses to the Steelers last week, making Jones a WR3/flex option if he's able to play.
Week 10 at Chicago Bears
In the first game without Golden Tate last Sunday against the Vikings, Marvin Jones led the team with six grabs for 66 yards. Matthew Stafford spent much of the loss either being sacked or trying to avoid being sacked, as the Minnesota defense dominated. In the past two contests, Jones has been targeted 18 times and will likely remain Stafford’s favorite target without Tate. Chicago is No. 5 in total defense, however, making Jones a WR3/flex start.
Week 9 at Minnesota Vikings
After not doing much the previous two contests, Marvin Jones had his best game of ’18 versus the Seahawks last Sunday. On a season-high 10 targets, he finished with seven catches for 117 yards and two TDs, bringing his total to five this year. With the emergence of Kenny Golladay, Jones numbers have been down, but he showed he can still be a vital part of the Detroit passing attack and will be even more so now that Golden Tate was traded. The Vikings are middle-of-the-pack at stopping the pass, so consider Jones a WR2 option.
Week 8 vs. Seattle Seahawks
In the win at Miami last week, Detroit’s rushing attack was the story – racking up nearly 250 yards on the ground. Marvin Jones caught just three passes for 29 yards, as Matthew Stafford put the ball in the air 22 times. In the past three games, Jones has totaled only seven receptions for 93 yards. This may be a good time to leave him on your bench versus the Seahawks solid pass defense.
Week 7 at Miami Dolphins
Prior to the bye week, in the win over the Packers, Marvin Jones caught only one pass – but it was an eight-yard TD, his third score of ’18. Jones has just 16 receptions in the first five games but has been over 50 yards in four of those contests. At Miami on Sunday he’ll be facing a weak pass defense, making Jones a WR3/flex play.
Week 5 vs. Green Bay Packers
Last week in the loss to the Cowboys was Golden Tate’s day to have a big game. The trio of Tate, Marvin Jones and Kenny Golladay tend to rotate strong performances, with either having the potential for a breakout. Jones was targeted six times at Dallas, resulting in three catches for 56 yards. While he’s totaled only 15 receptions and been held to under 70 yards in each of the first four contests, Jones has scored twice and is an important part of the Detroit passing attack. He makes for a WR3/flex play at home versus the Packers' No. 7 ranked pass defense.
Week 4 at Dallas Cowboys
Even though he was a game-time decision due to a sore ankle, Marvin Jones played last Sunday night versus New England, collecting six receptions for 69 yards and his second TD of the year. He has caught exactly four passes in each of the first three contests this season. Matthew Stafford spread the ball around again, connecting with nine different receivers in the win. At Dallas on Sunday, Jones will be facing the league’s No. 4 pass defense in the Cowboys, but they will be without Sean Lee. Jones makes for a WR3/flex option on the road.
Week 3 vs. New England Patriots
After the Lions fell behind at San Francisco last Sunday, Matthew Stafford aired the ball out 53 times. Nine of those passes went in the direction of Marvin Jones, who finished with four receptions for 54 yards and his first score of the season. Detroit has buried itself into a couple deep holes so far, which has resulted in 105 passes versus only 33 run plays. Blake Bortles threw for 377 yards and four TDs last week versus New England, so Jones makes for a WR2 option at home on Sunday night.
Week 2 at San Francisco 49ers
Even though Detroit quarterbacks threw the ball 52 times on Monday night in the big loss to the Jets, Marvin Jones was targeted only eight times, leading to four grabs for 54 yards. Golden Tate and Kenny Golladay combined to receive 27 looks, which has to be a bit of a concern to Jones owners. However, Matthew Stafford, when not throwing to the other team, does a good job of spreading the ball around, so any of the WRs could be in line for a strong game. Keep playing Jones as a WR2.
