MIN QB Matt Cassel - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Matt Cassel - Week 3 vs. New Orleans

Matt Cassel is coming off of a horrible performance against the New England Patriots. We knew the Patriots had a tough secondary and they showed why in Week 2. Cassel barely completed over half of his passes and ended up throwing four interceptions to just one touchdown. He finished with 202 passing yards.

The statistics say the Saints have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season, but that's because Matt Ryan tore them apart in Week 1. In Week 2 they allowed just 204 yards and one touchdown on 40 pass attempts to Brian Hoyer.

Cassel hasn't shown us anything promising this season and that's why he's a very poor option at QB this week. Look elsewhere for your quarterback.

Matt Cassel - Week 2 vs. New England

The Minnesota Vikings didn't do a lot of throwing the football in Week 1 against the Rams. Matt Cassel only attempted 25 passes completing 17 of them for 170 yards and two touchdowns.

The Vikings didn't need to pass the ball because they had such a comfortable lead over St. Louis. The Rams had to resort to their backup quarterback Austin Davis who didn't lead the team to any touchdown drives.

This week Cassel faces a tough New England secondary. The Patriots only allowed 178 passing yards to Ryan Tannehill in Week 1. The Vikings may also stray away from their passing game this week. The Patriots allowed 193 rushing yards to RBs in Week 1, so the Vikings might want to take advantage of that and use All Pro Adrian Peterson.

Cassel should be avoided this week. He won't pass the ball enough and he's going up against a stingy pass defense.

MIN QB Matt Cassel - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Matt Cassel - Week 1 vs. St. Louis
Matt Cassel was impressive enough to win the starting job over first-round rookie Teddy Bridgewater. That doesn't mean you should start him on your fantasy team, though. Cassel has a low ceiling and his primary job will be handing the ball off to Adrian Peterson. He faces a tough Rams secondary this week and should only viewed as a low QB2.

Fantasy Upside

The Minnesota Vikings announced Matt Cassel as the starting quarterback after the third week of the preseason. He takes over Norv Turner's offense with some weapons at his disposal. Kyle Rudolph and Cordarrelle Patterson give him both a big and a speedy target, respectively.

Cassel has looked good in the preseason completing 66 percent of his passes and tossing a touchdown in two of the first three games.

Fantasy Downside

Cassel started for Minnesota last season and didn't produce very promising results. His touchdown to interception ratio was 11:9 in nine games (six starts).

And while Cassel gets the start now, it's possible that rookie Teddy Bridgewater could step in at some point this season. The team's first-round draft pick was impressive in the preseason and the team invested a lot in him.

Bottom Line

Cassel is a very low QB2 this season. He's not worth a selection in most leagues.
