OAK WR Rod Streater - 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

After a promising 2013 season during which he caught 60 passes for 888 yards and four touchdowns, Rod Streater was poised to continue his success story in 2014. Streater, who came out of nowhere to make the Raiders roster in 2012 as an undrafted free agent out of Temple, was entering his third season last year, which is often considered a milestone year for wide receivers. He would have had a good young quarterback to work with in Derek Carr, but Streater unfortunately only played in three games due to injury. Can the 27-year-old now make up for lost time?

Fantasy Upside
In Carr’s first game, he hooked up with Streater for a touchdown, which shows the duo has a pretty decent connection. Oakland bolstered their talent base out wide by drafting Amari Cooper and signing Michael Crabtree, making Streater essentially a third receiver. However, in many ways, both Cooper and Crabtree have to prove themselves. Cooper must show he is worth the hype of being a high draft pick, and Crabtree needs to return to the form he showed in San Francisco back in 2012. If that duo struggles or injuries strike, the steady Streater can pick up the slack better than other Raider receivers such as Andre Holmes.

Fantasy Downside
Speaking of injuries, Streater was not activated from the active/PUP list until mid-August. He lost reps he needed to get familiar with a new offensive system and now must prove he can stay healthy. In other places, being a third target is not so bad, but it's a low-upside role with the Raiders -- especially with Cooper potentially being a much more dynamic receiver than Oakland has had in a long time.

Bottom Line
Streater is a capable player, but he is currently in a position where he will not offer much help to fantasy owners. While he should not be on your roster heading into the season, Streater is not a bad candidate for your early-season watch list.
