A Dolphins team source e-mailed me this afternoon that the priority is Peyton Manning. This coincides with news out of Mobile, Ala., where the Senior Bowl is going to be played Saturday. A league source there tells The Herald's Barry Jackson that the Dolphins have shown no interest in Flynn as of yet -- not even informal interest.
Now, teams are not allowed to show formal interest in soon-to-be free agents at this time. But at those Senior Bowl practices, where agents and team personnel departments mingle on the sideline, it's common for preliminary signs of future interest to be displayed. In fact, it's almost expected.
The Dolphins have shown no such interest in Matt Flynn.
That combined with the e-mail tells me the Dolphins will wait until there is a clear course of action on Manning -- when they know if he's going to be in Indy or on the market, when they know his health - before they decide what other direction to take.

Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland says he’s happy with the situation at running back, though he’s looking for more depth (UF’s Chris Rainey was among the players Miami has interviewed this week): “I’m very proud of Reggie Bush. We had a vision to utilize his skill set. He did a nice job of establishing himself as a runner more than he did in New Orleans. He’s a lot tougher than what maybe people thought of him.
“Daniel Thomas is going to be a fine player, a pretty good player,” Ireland said. “I believe in him. He’s tough, strong, really learned to pass protect, really quick. He’s got to stay healthy and keep his feet in the ground when he’s making contact.”
The Dolphins hire Packers OC Joe Philbin as new head coach
Friday, January 20, 2012, 7:09pm
Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin will become the 10th head coach in Miami Dolphins history, sources told The Miami Herald.
Dolphins owner Stephen Ross decided Philbin, who has no head coaching experience, will be hired after he impressed the owner during two interviews, including a second one Wednesday in New York.
Denver offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and Dolphins interim coach Todd Bowles were the other finalists for the job.
The Dolphins would like to keep Bowles as defensive coordinator, and Philbin was reportedly receptive, according to the NFL Network. But source close to Bowles says he has not been approached by the Dolphins about that.
The Packers’ offensive coordinator since 2007, Philbin didn’t call the plays — coach Mike McCarthy handles that — but he crafted the game plan.
“He does a ton,” Packers receiver Greg Jennings said. “He runs all the walk-throughs, the meetings. He’s comfortable being in front of the team. He’s definitely fully capable of being a head coach.”
Not to be overlooked is Philbin's connection with QB Matt Flynn, who is set to enter free agency this offseason. The Dolphins may want to see if the pair can replicate the kind of success that the Packers have had in recent years.

I know this for sure -- on the night home from Philadelphia a little over two weeks ago - Offensive Coordinator Kyle Shanahan and his father, Mike, had a detailed conversation over Matt Flynn's performance against the Lions.
They were very impressed and pleased to see the results, despite not being able to witness the work. I am told that they have had other conversations about Flynn, and it would appear based on a few sources inside the organization that the Redskins are 'very interested' as one source described to me.
Of course, we shall see when 'rubber meets the road' and it comes down to contract time. I think the Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars, Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos and a few other teams could be in the mix.
Our ESPN 980 Front Office NFL Insider, J.I. Halsell expects a very modest contract for a potential NFL starter, because simply -- teams do not know how good Flynn will be as a starter, with limited experience.
We're not so sure that Flynn's contract will be all that "modest" given the deal that Kevin Kolb received from the Cardinals. Flynn will likely be a top (if not THE top) QB on the free agent market. Those teams that strike out in the draft will be clamoring for his services.
Tom Brady has a sprained non-throwing shoulder
Friday, January 20, 2012, 12:11pm
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady missed all of Wednesday's practice, setting off some alarms in New England, but it was all a part of a schedule he currently is on in order to make sure his injured left shoulder continues to heal properly.
Brady sprained the acromioclavicular joint (AC joint) in his left shoulder against the Miami Dolphins on Dec. 24, according to sources with knowledge of the injury, but he hasn't missed any game time as a result of the injury. He was held out of practice that week and during the bye week, but one source said his condition gradually has improved.
Jeff Fisher named head coach of Rams
Wednesday, January 18, 2012, 4:43am
Jeff Fisher was the most coveted name among teams seeking a new coach, and he was widely known to be the top choice of the Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams. Fisher took his time deciding between the two franchises before agreeing to terms with the Rams late last week and finalizing the contract Monday. When he was formally introduced as the Rams' coach Tuesday, Fisher said his decision was made easy.
"I had two factors," Fisher said. "One was a good owner. The other was a good quarterback."
That quarterback is former No. 1 overall draft pick Sam Bradford, who struggled through injuries in what Fisher described as a "difficult" 2011 season. Bradford completed 53.5 percent of his passes for 2,164 yards in 10 games, with six touchdowns and six interceptions. Fisher said Bradford's rookie season, when he passed for 3,512 yards with 18 TDs and 15 interceptions, is a better indication of his future.
"I think he has a chance to be a top quarterback in the NFL very, very soon," Fisher said of Bradford.
Jeff Fisher chooses the Rams
Friday, January 13, 2012, 4:56pm
It wasn't quite as overwrought as LeBron James' decision on which team to abandon Cleveland for, but Jeff Fisher has finally chosen a coaching destination. He will take his talents to the St. Louis Rams.
Last week, Fisher interviewed with both the Rams and the Miami Dolphins, visiting both teams' facilities. Rumors of where he would land started to leak on Monday, but there was no definitive news until ESPN reported today that he is headed to St. Louis.
This would seemingly be good news for Steven Jackson, given the fact that Chris Johnson thrived during Fisher's tenure.
Reggie Bush out for Week 17
Friday, December 30, 2011, 2:20pm
Dolphins RB Reggie Bush (knee) has been ruled out for Week 17.
The Dolphins will turn to Daniel Thomas to carry the load against a Jets' rush defense that isn't as good as its reputation right now.

Rookie running back Stevan Ridley had a season- and team-high 13 carries against the Dolphins Saturday, the second straight week he led the Patriots in rushing attempts.
Ridley totaled 64 yards, nearly all of them coming in the second half - a recurring theme in the game for the New England offense - and his final carry, an 18-yard scamper, gave the Patriots the first down they needed to kill the clock and seal the 27-24 win.
The third-round pick out of Louisiana State impressed teammates and coach Bill Belichick.

Running back Reggie Bush hurt his right leg late in the fourth quarter and wasn't on the field for the Dolphins' final touchdown with 1:48 left. Bush, though, isn't worried about playing Sunday against the New York Jets.
"I don't think it's serious," he said in the locker room. "I mean, I'm walking,"
Fellow running back Daniel Thomas suffered a knee injury in the first half, forcing him to leave the game after two carries for 3 yards.
