Shane Vereen placed on short-term IR

The Patriots announced Tuesday that running back Shane Vereen has been placed on injured reserve with a designation to return after undergoing surgery to repair a dislocated bone in his left wrist.

Fantasy Impact:

It's a major blow to the team, and fantasy owners. Vereen is eligible to practice after Week 7 and play after Week 9. But, due to the Pats' Week 10 bye, the earliest Vereen can return to game action is Nov. 18 versus the Carolina Panthers. That's a long time and roster spots are valuable depending on format. It would be a shame to lose Vereen, but you're likely going to have to make a tough call in the very near future. Make sure your league does not have a free IR slot before dropping Vereen.

This could mean Brandon Bolden will soon return after missing Week 1. As we stated before, Leon Washington could even get a few receptions. LeGarrette Blount could feasibly be in the mix. The best bet is that Stevan Ridley will be given a longer leash after his two fumble performance Sunday.
