Julio Jones' availability will be based on pregame workout

Pro Football Talk - [Full Article]

Last week, the Falcons waited until Sunday morning to decide whether receiver Julio Jones would play despite a hip injury. This week, it’ll be the same routine.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Jones’ availability for Sunday’s showdown with the Saints will hinge on the Sunday morning pre-game workout.

Fantasy Impact:

Jones wants to play and the Falcons sure need him. In his last two games played, Jones generated 448 receiving yards, with a whopping 259 yards coming in a Monday night loss to the Packers. Between the performances with Jones and the team’s struggles without him, the fourth-year wideout from Alabama is laying the foundation for a major payday at some point during the 2015 offseason, the story said. If Jones can't go, Harry Douglas would shape up to be a very good option again.

Falcons WR Harry Douglas (foot, probable) took full practice reps on Friday after being limited earlier in the week and is probable for Week 16. If Julio Jones is back, Douglas won’t be startable, but he’s a WR2-type if Jones remains out. Stay tuned on Sunday morning.

Falcons WR Julio Jones (hip, questionable) missed practice all week and is questionable for Week 16. Jones is likely a game-time decision on Sunday, per HC Mike Smith. If he plays, expect him to be ranked as a WR2, depending on the pregame reports from the Atlanta/New Orleans beat writers. If he’s out, Harry Douglas and Roddy White would both be top 25 plays against a shaky New Orleans secondary. The Falcons play early on Sunday.

ESPN - [Full Article]

Falcons beat writer Vaughn McClure: I anticipate Julio Jones will be ready for the Saints, based on everything I'm hearing... If Jones indeed plays Sunday, I will be curious to see if his speed and ability to get down the field is hampered at all by the injury.

Fantasy Impact:

This isn't a ringing endorsement of Jones's availability for Sunday, but it is encouraging. We'd like to see Jones return to practice on Friday before penciling him into our lineups.

Thursday, December 18, 2014, 6:14pm

Falcons WR Harry Douglas (foot) returned to limited practice reps Thursday after missing Wednesday practice. If Julio Jones is back, Douglas won’t be startable, but he’s a WR2-type if Jones remains out.

Falcons think Julio Jones will play Week 16

Tuesday, December 16, 2014, 10:00am

Pro Football Talk - [Full Article]

On Monday, coach Mike Smith said Falcons WR Julio Jones was “darn close” to playing against Pittsburgh and that he thinks Jones will be ready to go against New Orleans.

“Julio is about where he was yesterday. Our anticipation is we’ll have him ready to go this week,” Smith said, via the team’s website. “It’s going to be important for him to continue to improve. He improved from last week to this week, and we need to get him back out there. I know it’ll be every day, what’s going on with Julio. I think what we need to do, is we need to realize it’s something that’s going to be later on during the week, so maybe we can look at other things and talk about other before we talk about number 11.”

Fantasy Impact:

PFT went on to say Smith was full of optimism for Jones last week and Roddy White the previous week before both players wound up on the sideline come kickoff. That doesn’t mean he’s off on this call, but there’s probably not much reason to jump to the conclusion that Jones is playing until he’s able to at least get back on the practice field.

Falcons Beat: Julio Jones 'can barely run'

Saturday, December 13, 2014, 11:08am

D. Orlando Ledbetter on Twitter - [Full Article]

Falcons beat writer D. Orlando Ledbetter answered a question about Falcons WR Julio Jones on Twitter, saying Jones would be a decoy and he can barely run.

Fantasy Impact:

While Jones could very well come down to a game-time call, it seems he'd be limited in Week 15 even if he's active. Owners may want to consider other options here even if Jones suits up. Harry Douglas could end up getting more snaps even if Jones is active.

Friday, December 12, 2014, 6:26pm

Falcons WR Harry Douglas (foot, probable) took full practice reps on Friday after being limited earlier in the week and is probable for Week 15. Douglas could play a big role on Sunday if Julio Jones is out with his hip injury.
