Beat goes on for QB Aaron Rodgers
Saturday, August 27, 2011, 11:53am
Quarterback Graham Harrell led Green Bay to 11 points in the final 35 seconds, rallying the defending Super Bowl champs to a 24-21 victory over Indianapolis on Friday night.
Harrell threw an 11-yard TD pass to Ryan Taylor with 35 seconds left, then hooked up with Taylor again on the 2-point conversion to make it 21-21.
After the Packers recovered an onside kick, Harrell set up Mason Crosby for a 50-yard field goal as time expired.
Colts backup Curtis Painter also played well, going 11 of 21 for 171 yards.
Super Bowl MVP Aaron Rodgers was in midseason form, going 19 of 23 for 204 yards with one TD to give Green Bay a 10-0 second-quarter lead.
Rodgers has lit it up in the preseason, much like he did last year. Although Michael Vick goes into the season as the number one fantasy quarterback, Rodgers is fully capable of beating him out for that spot.

Despite dealing with a left ankle/ foot injury, Packers kicker Mason Crosby hit a 31-yard field, two extra points and averaged a healthy 71.7 yards per kickoff.
Crosby injured his plant foot in practice about a week ago and had to take a couple days off to let it heal. It still causes him some discomfort, and he has to treat it after practices and games, but he said it did not give way against the Browns.
Crosby falls a bit in our rankings this year. Once in the top-five in past years, he's currently 11th before this season starts. He could certainly be a decent option if drafted as a number-two on your team.

K Mason Crosby has agreed to terms with the Packers on a 5-year deal.
Crosby was PK12 in 2010 and PK6 the year before, so with this deal he should continue to be one of the safest fantasy kickers in the game. It's just too bad he doesn't kick indoors or in warm weather.

K Ryan Longwell made clear he intends to play in 2011 and said he "wouldn't mind going back" to the Vikings. Asked if he would consider returning to Green Bay if Packers place-kicker Mason Crosby moves on in free agency, Longwell laughed and said: "You never say never. You just don't know."

The Green Bay Packers held their Family Night scrimmage on Saturday night and Mason Crosby was one of the stars of the evening.
There couldn’t have been a better setting for him to have his best performance of training camp.
Many fans have been questioning whether Crosby can be the kicker of the future after connecting on just 75 percent of his attempts in 2009. Coach Mike McCarthy has backed the four-year veteran by not bringing in another kicker as competition.
Regardless, going 7-for-8 in front of an announced crowd of 47,844 was significant in terms of fan confidence.
"It’s a scrimmage, but it’s Lambeau and it’s a game-like situation," Crosby said. "We’ve got to perform. That’s what people want to see. It was good to come out here and hit the ball well and see the operation is getting as sharp as it needs to be."
Crosby connected on field goals of 26, 31, 36, 41, 47, 51 and 53 yards. The lone miss came from 44 yards. Crosby said the 53-yarder was the longest field goal he has made in training camp. He entered the night 19-for-27.
"The ball came off his foot very well tonight," McCarthy said. "Even on the kickoffs. We had to slow him up a little just so we could get the returns. He’s a very strong, gifted kicker."
Crosby is the type of guy than can give fantasy owners nightmares, especially if you are in a league where points are deducted for missed field goals, but in the end, you want him on your team because he can convert long field goals and plays for a great offense.

No competition for Crosby
The team has no plans to bring in another kicker to compete with Mason Crosby during training camp, McCarthy said.
Crosby was drafted in the sixth round in 2007 and was the first rookie in 22 years to lead the league in scoring. However, his field goal percentage dropped to a career-low 75 percent in 2009.
“We’re committed to Mason,” McCarthy said. “He’s done a good job in the offseason. He’s outstanding in the strength and conditioning aspect of it.”
Crosby is considered a top-five kicker, number-four actually, here at 4-for-4.

For the Packers in Week #2, safety Atari Bigby (knee) and running back Brandon Jackson (ankle) are out. Kicker Mason Crosby (abdomen), wide receiver Greg Jennings (wrist) and cornerback Will Blackmon (quadriceps) are probable, and nose tackle B.J. Raji (ankle) and guard Daryn Colledge (foot) are questionable

Packers K Mason Crosby (abdomen) is resting an injury that McCarthy said flared up on Tuesday while lifting weights. Crosby later said it's something he's been dealing with for a while. Crosby said it's no big deal, the medical staff thought it better just to rest it. Of course, he's accuracy issues will now be looked at a little more closely.
