John Carlson Fantasy News
Saturday, September 10, 2011, 1:13pm
The question of when Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Sidney Rice (doubtful for week one) will be better remains open. He suffered a shoulder injury in training camp during a one-on-one drill against a cornerback. He missed the first exhibition game, returned to play the next two, then was unable to finish practice Aug. 29 and has not practiced since.
Seattle head coach Pete Carroll said he doesn't think Rice's shoulder injury is as serious as the one suffered by tight end John Carlson, which required season-ending surgery, but there's still a degree of uncertainty about Rice's recovery.
"Probably by the end of next week we'll know if he's really responding," Carroll said. "He feels way better."

TE John Carlson likely out for season
Tuesday, August 30, 2011, 7:08pm
Seahawks TE John Carlson will need surgery for a torn labrum, Pete Carroll said, and is likely out for the season.
Depth at TE may be a concern for Seattle.

Pro Football Weekly is hearing the Seahawks are becoming increasingly concerned over the labrum injury currently keeping TE John Carlson sidelined.
The Seahawks also signed Zach Miller, formerly of Oakland. Not having Carlson in the picture would help Miller's value, but it's still held down a bit based on Tarvaris Jackson at QB.

Line coach Tom Cable made it clear in his comments that he is planning to use both Zach Miller and John Carlson.
"We now have two fantastic tight ends," Cable said. "They're going to complement each other the right way."
Cable said that Miller (66 catches last season) "is a fine, fine player and a better person than he is a player." He said that Miller and Carlson are "like two peas in a pod."
He touted Miller as a complete player who can block at the point of attack, can be put in motion or split wide and also used as an "H" back.
If this is true and Carlson is not traded like some speculated, it will certainly hurt Miller's value. As stated before, we currently have Miller ranked around number-10 for tight ends, but he's sure to drop a few spots to a TE2 after the trade.
Seattle signs TE Zach Miller
Tuesday, August 2, 2011, 5:18pm
Seahawks beat out the Raiders for TE Zach Miller.
This has to be a shock for the Raiders, who thought they could clear space and resign Miller. Miller's stock will drop as he becomes the #3 option in Seattle behind Sidney Rice and Mike X Williams. Seattle hasn't been able to make a viable fantasy option out of John Carlson, who will still be in the mix.

Seahawks wide receiver Mike Williams caught 10 passes for 123 yards in the October game and his size and toughness are ideal against Chicago’s Cover 2 defense. Williams and Ben Obomanu are precision route runners and Hasselbeck is going to need time to connect with them and also tight end John Carlson and Brandon Stokely, who came up big against the Saints. Carlson had two touchdowns.

Seattle receiver Mike X Williams is out of the boot and walking around, but he likely will not practice today or Friday as trainers try to determine how best to deal with the combination of his sprained left ankle and strained left foot.
Carroll said the team’s other starting receiver, Ben Obomanu, who suffered a deep cut on his right hand, will not practice for two days but both still could play in San Francisco on Sunday.
“We’re going to give them a couple days before we do anything with them and let everything quiet down,” Carroll said. “But we’re holding out hope that those guys still have a chance to play.”
Tight end John Carlson returned to practice after missing all of last week, including the Carolina game, with a hip injury.

Seahawks Notes: Mike X Williams – The team’s leading receiver went out Sunday after spraining his left ankle on the Seahawks’ third play of the game. It’s a mild – or first-degree – sprain. But it’s also on the same leg where Williams had a strained foot that forced him to sit out the Week 12 game against the Chiefs.
“We think that he’s got a chance (to play),” Carroll said. “The doctors think by Thursday or Friday we’ll know a lot more and have a chance to see whether he can go. He’s really frustrated right now. He thought he’d made it back, and then this happened early. So he’ll battle through it and all that, but we won’t know for a couple of days.”
Ben Obomanu – The team’s starting flanker got what Carroll called a “serious laceration” between two of the fingers on his right hand while being hit by Panthers strong safety Charles Godfrey after catching a pass late in the second quarter. Like Williams, Obomanu was unable to return.
“We’ll have to wait and see how that works out for us here later in the week,” Carroll said. “It’s going to come down to how they can protect him, so that he feels OK, and then can he function with the protection he’s got to wear.”
John Carlson – The team’s starting tight end sat out the Carolina game with a hip flexor.
“I think John will make it back to practice late in the week from all reports,” Carroll said. “So it will good to get him back out there.”

With their top two receivers out with injuries, the Seattle Seahawks needed someone to step up and create some big plays.
Tight end Cameron Morrah answered the call.
The 6-foot-5, 251-pounder out of Cal replaced John Carlson in the lineup when missed the game with an injured hip flexor. And Morrah took advantage of his opportunity, finishing with three receptions for 69 yards, including a long catch of 36 yards.
“Some plays got called up and I was able to make the most of them,” Morrah said. “Matt (Hasselbeck) had a couple great passes to me, caught me right in stride. A lot of the guys went down, other people have to step up and take advantage of opportunities and help the team.”

Over the last three weeks, Seahawks TE John Carlson has seen increased reps at fullback due to the injury to Michael Robinson.
This explains his lack of offensive production.
