Brian Leonard Fantasy News

Saints RB Khiry Robinson (forearm, out) missed practice all week and is out for Week 11. Robinson originally called the injury “a little boo-boo,” but has since missed three games and will miss another. As long as Robinson is out, Mark Ingram is a solid RB1. That’s especially true this week in a great matchup with the Bengals, who are missing MLB Vontaze Burfict badly. The Bengals have given up 4.5 YPC and 12 rushing touchdowns in nine games. The Saints signed Brian Leonard this week as added depth at the position.

Veteran running back Brian Leonard has signed with the New Orleans Saints, according to his agent, Mike McCartney.

Leonard was one of four players who worked out for the Saints on Tuesday.

Leonard, 30, has seven years of NFL experience, most recently with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013.

Fantasy Impact:

We reached out to the author, Evan Woodbery, and he suggested this signing had something to do with the slow recoveries of Pierre Thomas and Khiry Robinson, along with Edwin Baker, who was concussed in Week 10.

Andre Brown released by Texans

The Houston Texans have made a bevy of moves in the backfield.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Monday that the team released running back Andre Brown, per a source informed of the move. Houston also cut runners Dennis Johnson and Tim Cornett, per John McClain of The Houston Chronicle.

The moves clear a path for new talent after the Texans worked out journeymen Brian Leonard, Ronnie Brown and William Powell earlier on Monday, per McClain.

Until they add bodies, the team's less-than-titanic depth chart features Arian Foster ahead of Jonathan Grimes and rookie Alfred Blue.

Fantasy Impact:

It's not really a surprise. Brown was buried on the team's depth chart and didn't play in the team's opening game - a blowout loss to the Cardinals. He was poised to be a valuable addition as a strong backup to often-injured Foster after two pretty good years with the Giants.

The Texans turned to a group of young backs Saturday night, but looked at some old ones Monday.

According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans worked out three running backs Monday: Ronnie Brown, Brian Leonard and William Powell.

The Chargers let Brown walk as a free agent this offseason, and the 32-year-old also worked for the Patriots earlier this offseason.

The 30-year-old Leonard was solid last year for the Buccaneers, and has shown to be a veratile run-pass player. Powell has spent time with the Cardinals and Eagles.

Fantasy Impact:

The Texans have been without Arian Foster (hamstring), and they didn’t give free agent acquisition Andre Brown much work in the preseason opener, going with Jonathan Grimes, Alfred Blue and Dennis Johnson.

Mike James has fractured ankle, out for season

Tuesday, November 12, 2013, 9:27am

CBS Sports - [Full Article]

Buccaneers running back Mike James came out of the gates smoking, logging 41 rushing yards on his first five carries of the game. But James was carted off the field of the Dolphins-Bucs game in the first quarter. He suffered a fractured ankle.

Fantasy Impact:

James is now done for the season. It's unfortunate for James who looked like he was on his way to a huge night coming off a big Week 9 performance. The Bucs mostly turned to Brian Leonard who finished with 20 carries for 57 yards. But Bobby Rainey was much more productive on his eight carries, rushing for 45 yards and a TD. It looks like it's going to be a timeshare as far as the Tampa running game goes.

Doug Martin out for year with torn labrum

Sunday, October 20, 2013, 8:49pm

Albert Breer on Twitter - [Full Article]

Bucs RB Doug Martin suffered a torn labrum yesterday against the Falcons, and is out for the year.

Fantasy Impact:

Reports have been all over the place since last night, but more and more are saying the worst for Martin. Bucs coach Greg Schiano, however, said he doesn't believe the injury is season-ending, but refused to give a timetable for Martain's return. Any missed time is bad news for the Bucs and Martin owners, who likely spent a very early pick in this year's drafts. Martin was only averaging 3.6 yards a carry this season, putting the Bucs 20th in the league in rushing yards. To make things worse, it's a quick turnaround in Week 8 for a Thursday night game hosting the Panthers. Brian Leonard and Mike James will likely get work, but there are some tough matchups the next few weeks that will limit their values.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis has no timetable on RB Cedric Peerman.

Fantasy Impact:

It's being called an ankle sprain. Brian Leonard will likely back up BenJarvus Green-Ellis if Peerman misses time.
