Streaming Quarterbacks: Week 12 Targets

Streaming quarterbacks requires a little intestinal fortitude, and if you at all doubt that claim, ask anyone who deployed Josh McCown or Mark Sanchez in Week 11.

Neither signal caller got off to a hot start, and both ended the week as top-9 quarterback options. McCown quite simply exploited a prime matchup against a lifeless Washington defense, while Sanchez benefited from game script gone insane. Only Peyton Manning racked up more passing yards than Sanchez in Week 11.

Our Week 11 quarterback streamers, thanks in large part to Teddy Bridgewater's clunker at Chicago, notched 16.1 fantasy points, bringing our seasonal average to 16.4 points, or QB9 numbers. That's just two points per game less than Drew Brees, who, in August, was drafted in the second round of fantasy drafts. Our optimal streaming plays are scoring 21.2 points, or QB3 numbers.

Let's get to Week 12, in which six of the eight most favorable matchups belong to quarterback streaming options. I whittled down the list to three signal callers with the help of 4for4's schedule-adjusted fantasy points and fantasy points per pass attempt (FPAT), a measurement of efficiency that offers a clearer view of a quarterback's production.

All quarterback streamers must be available on at least 40 percent of Yahoo league waiver wires...

Kyle Orton (BUF) vs. New York Jets

It was just last month Orton completed 10 passes against Gang Green for 238 yards and four touchdowns. That gave Orton an FPAT of 1.5 -- a ridiculous number we may never see again.

Orton, along with the rest of the Buffalo offense, struggled mightily last Thursday against a tough Miami defense. I wouldn't use that as an indicator of how Orton will perform in a decidedly friendly matchup at home against a Jets' secondary allowing the fourth most adjust points to signal callers.

New York has allowed more than 15 fantasy points to quarterbacks in eight of their 10 games as opponents continually attack their exploitable secondary to avoid their vicious front seven. Quarterbacks have notched a 0.59 FPAT against the Jets, giving Orton -- the recent recipient of his coach's vote of confidence -- a nice floor in this one. He's available in 87 percent of Yahoo leagues.
