The Training Room: Week 11 Injury Recap

Kenny Pickett, QB PIT

Injury: Eye

Projected Timetable: Week 12

Initial Thoughts:

Pickett missed a few snaps but it was reportedly simply due to getting dirt in his eye and dealing with a brief irritation. He was able to return to the game and finish out. He will play next week.

Geno Smith, QB SEA

Injury: Right Elbow

Projected Timetable: Week 12-14

Initial Thoughts:

Smith missed a good chunk of the game after Aaron Donald hit his right arm/elbow during a throw and likely dealt with a ligament or nerve irritation. While he was able to return to the game for the last drive, the tissue could wind up becoming more irritated post-game. Pete Carroll has already said that his status for the short turnaround for Thursday night may be in jeopardy, so keep an eye on his status as the week goes on in preparation against the 49ers.

Joe Burrow, QB CIN

Injury: Right Wrist

Projected Timetable: Season-Ending

Initial Thoughts:

Burrow suffered a season-ending wrist injury with ligament damage that will require surgery. Details have not fully surfaced, but whether it be the TFCC or scapholunate repair, I would anticipate him returning to throwing at around 12 weeks out and be a full-go at around five months out, meaning he would be cleared for OTAs. This is a great buy-low opportunity for a top quarterback in the league.

Aaron Jones, RB GB

Injury: Left Knee

Projected Timetable: Week 14-16

Initial Thoughts:

Unfortunately, Jones suffered a significant knee sprain that, while reportedly not a long-term concern, is expected to cost him several weeks. It is important to note that he has an extensive history of MCL and knee sprains, so he may require more time to heal and be ready to return to play. Be prepared to acquire other options if you are hurting at running back.

De’Von Achane, RB MIA

Injury: Knee Sprain

Projected Timetable: Week 12-13

Initial Thoughts:

The bad news is that this is a confirmed reinjury of his prior knee sprain, but the good news is that he was trying to push to re-enter the game and likely could have played if allowed. It may only be one more game if he misses any time, but it sounds like he has a decent chance to play next week. Can we trust him when he plays? Stay tuned, but low volume is likely on tap for a few weeks.

Kenneth Walker, RB SEA

Injury: Left Oblique

Projected Timetable: Week 13-15

Initial Thoughts:

Per Pete Carroll, his injury is an oblique strain that is “legit” and will likely cost him some time. My concern here is that via video, he was limping to the sideline after his foot slid out from underneath him, which can often be a mechanism for a groin strain and/or sports hernia. Mixing in the fact that we cannot trust a word Carroll says and the past history of sports hernia and groin injuries Walker has sustained, my concern level is heightened until we hear that it is for sure a simple oblique strain. If that is what this injury is, I would expect it to cost him only 1-2 games. Either way, plan to be without him in Week 12. Look for a big workload boost for Zach Charbonnet.

D’Onta Foreman, RB CHI

Injury: Right Ankle

Projected Timetable: Week 12-13

Initial Thoughts:

Foreman suffered a reinjury to his prior ankle sprain and will likely be limited entering Week 12. This will likely continue the ugly three-back committee in Chicago and Foreman is in jeopardy of no longer being the lead. Monitor his status moving forward.

Tyreek Hill, WR MIA

Injury: Hand

Projected Timetable: Week 12

Initial Thoughts:

Hill suffered a hand injury that cost him a few snaps, but he was able to return to the game without limitations and had several more catches. This sounds very minor and should not affect him moving forward.

Cooper Kupp, WR LAR

Injury: Right Ankle

Projected Timetable: Week 12-13

Initial Thoughts:

Kupp suffered a mild inversion sprain after getting stepped on and having his ankle roll inwards. He reportedly attempted to return to the game but the staff held him out. Now, we’ve heard this before, but on a surface level it sounds like he will be able to suit up for Week 12. Keep an eye on his status moving forward.

Chris Godwin, WR TB

Injury: Right Ankle

Projected Timetable: Week 12-13

Initial Thoughts:

Keep an eye on Godwin’s status in practice this next week after suffering what appeared to be a high ankle sprain. He was able to return to the game without much of an issue, but these often swell and become more painful after the game. It may not be an issue for him, but again, simply monitor.

Mark Andrews, TE BAL

Injury: Left Ankle, Fibula Fracture

Projected Timetable: Season-Ending

Initial Thoughts:

Andrews suffered ligament damage and a fibula fracture that will require surgery to repair. View his timetable similar to that of Tony Pollard’s, with some level of concern that he does lose explosiveness and athleticism going into 2024. Nevertheless, this is likely the cheapest you will be able to acquire a top target tight end. Choose wisely.
