CAR QB Cam Newton - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 – Cam Newton vs. Cleveland

Cam Newton missed last week’s contest after a car accident, but he’s been getting most of the snaps in practice and seems like he’s good to go this week against Cleveland. He blew up against the Saints two weeks ago, but Cleveland poses a much more difficult challenge, as they rank 7th in the league in passing yards allowed.

Cam is a risky option because he’s coming off a back injury from the car accident, and because he’s been inconsistent this season and is facing a tough matchup. He has upside though, and fantasy owners could do worse than him. We have him as a fringe starter in most leagues, or a nice QB2.

CAR QB Cam Newton - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 – Cam Newton vs. Tampa Bay

Cam Newton had a fantastic game against the Saints last week as the Panthers shocked everyone and beat their division rivals 41-10 to stay alive in the NFC South. Newton had 226 yards passing, threw three touchdown passes and also rushed for 83 yards and a fourth touchdown.

This week however, Cam was in a car accident and early reports indicate he suffered a back injury. Cam’s status this week is in doubt, and fantasy owners should monitor his status carefully before using him against Tampa. It’s a nice matchup if he starts, but Cam’s long term health needs to be the priority right now, and we’re all hoping that the injuries turn out to be not serious.

Glad to see Cam seems to be good health, but he does have a back injury that will keep him out of this week's matchup. Be sure to adjust your lineup accordingly.

CAR QB Cam Newton - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 – Cam Newton vs. New Orleans

Despite desperately needing a win, Cam Newton had a rough outing against the Vikings last week, and the Panthers fell to 3-8-1 on the season. He finished with only 194 yards passing, a touchdown and a pick as the Panther offense failed to move the ball effectively all game. He did add 49 yards rushing to his totals, helping fantasy owners, but overall he continued his disappointing 2014 campaign.

This week, he has another pretty good matchup. The Saints have a bottom five defense against the pass, and the Panthers will likely need to throw the ball to keep up with the Saints offense. This gives Cam upside, but he’s still a risky start. If you’re in trouble, you could do worse, but we have him ranked as a fringe starter this week, even with a pretty good matchup.

CAR QB Cam Newton - Week 13, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 – Cam Newton vs. Minnesota

Cam Newton had some thrilling moments against the Falcons two weeks ago, putting up 292 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter that put the Panthers in a position to win the game. Alas, a missed field goal kept Carolina from winning the game, but fantasy owners were happy to see Newton show up late in the game. He threw a pair of picks too, but he added thirty yards on the ground turning in a decent fantasy game overall.

This week, Cam faces a Vikings defense that has been above average this season, allowing about 22 points and 342 total yards per game to opponents. The Panthers will be hoping to put it together following the bye week and the Vikings seem like a good team to get back on track. He’s been too disappointing to give him a rousing recommendation, but Cam is a nice low-end QB1 with upside this week as Carolina tries to right the ship.

CAR QB Cam Newton - Week 11, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 – Cam Newton vs. Atlanta

Cam Newton was part of another big Panther loss on Monday night against the Eagles, but he did throw for over 300 yards and a pair of late, garbage time touchdowns. He also threw three picks however and the Panthers offense continues to struggle heavily behind one of the worst offensive lines in the league.

This week, we expect Cam to put up solid numbers against the Atlanta Falcons, who are giving up more passing yards per game than anyone in the league. The Falcons have only given up 12 touchdown passes on the year, but they don’t force a lot of turnovers and don’t get a ton of pressure on opposing quarterbacks, so Cam should be able to put up a decent fantasy line. We have him as a borderline top 10 option in a nice matchup.

CAR QB Cam Newton - Week 10, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 – Cam Newton vs. Philadelphia

Cam Newton salvaged a forgettable loss against the Saints last week with 43 yards rushing and a touchdown, despite throwing for only 151 yards and a pick as their division rival destroyed the Panthers. Cam is suffering from a poor offensive line and accuracy issues, but he remains a dynamic player in the NFL.

This week, Cam faces an Eagle defense that ranks in the bottom third of the league in both passing yards and passing touchdowns allowed. The Eagles are good at creating turnovers, but they also give up stats to opposing offenses, so expect big numbers across the board from the athletic Newton. We have him as a top ten option in all leagues with the bye weeks taking out several more consistent starting fantasy quarterbacks.

CAR QB Cam Newton - Week 9, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 – Cam Newton vs. New Orleans

Cam Newton had a disappointing game in a loss to Seattle last week, as he had only 171 yards passing, only 24 yards rushing, no touchdowns, and a pick. That was pretty bad going up against a team that was supposed to be taking a step back on defense.

This week, Cam faces the Saints, who have not played good defense all season. Despite looking improved and getting four sacks against Green Bay on Sunday, they gave up 400 plus yards and a rushing touchdown to Aaron Rodgers. The Saints defense is next to last in the league in passing yards given up per game, and Cam will look to get back on track in an important game for the division lead. Newton is a solid QB1 option with risk/reward potential this week.

CAR QB Cam Newton - Week 8, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 – Cam Newton vs. Seattle

Cam Newton is running the ball again after doing so little of it early in the season, which makes his fantasy value go way up. In a blowout loss to the Packers last week, Cam still ended up with 41 yards on seven carries, to go with 205 yards passing, a touchdown, and a pick.

Cam will face a Seattle defense that has been average against the pass this year, but ranks top ten against the run. With a possibly tough matchup, Cam is a fringe starter at the QB position. We have him ranked just outside our top ten.

CAR QB Cam Newton - Week 7, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 – Cam Newton vs. Green Bay

Good news for Panthers fans and Cam Newton fantasy owners, as we saw a bit of the old Cam back in action against the Bengals last week. Not only did he throw for 284 yards and a pair of touchdowns, he also ran the ball 17 times for 107 yards and another score. This spells good things for the future, as it’s a good sign Cam is feeling healthy again after starting the season banged up.

This week, Cam will face the Packers, who have been hot and cold on defense this year but rank fifth in the league in passing yards allowed per game. Still, their run defense has struggled and with Cam healthy again, his legs make him an excellent option in all fantasy leagues. We have him as a top ten start this week.

CAR QB Cam Newton - Week 6, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 – Cam Newton vs. Cincinnati

Cam Newton is coming off a nice come-from-behind victory over the Bears last week, but he still seems to be hurting following offseason ankle surgery and a rib injury in the pre-season that kept him out of Week 1. The Panthers would like to see him get back to his playmaking ways, but he’s averaging only 10.5 yards per game rushing this season, compared to a career average of nearly 40 yards.

This week, Cam will face a tough opponent. Despite the Bengals getting torched by the Pats last week, they’ve been one of the most consistent defenses this year. They have a bend-but-don’t break style of defense, where they give up some yards but are still sixth in the league in points allowed. With a struggling Panther offense, a tough matchup, and questions over Cam’s health at play, Cam is a risky start and we don’t recommend going with him unless you’re in a 2QB league.
