Scouting report

SEA RB Eddie Lacy - 2017 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

There is no doubt Eddie Lacy has a pedigree. He averaged over 1,150 yards his first two seasons while scoring 20 touchdowns. Lacy also racked up over 200 carries each of those seasons. With the move to Seattle, Lacy finds himself on top of a talented running back depth chart. Despite the fact his overall numbers have dropped for different reasons, he still maintained a healthy 4.3 yards per carry average.

Fantasy Downside

Lacy's 2016 season ended with ankle surgery and many people believe his weight might have had something to do with it. It has been an issue throughout his career and he will have to show head coach Pete Carroll he can keep the weight off (and was given incentives to do so). Lacy will also be on a short leash because C.J. Prosise and Thomas Rawls have both had some success as the team's feature back.

2017 Bottom Line

Lacy is a risky pick just because of the fact we really don't know how the Seahawks will use their backs. His ADP is 71 and he has been the 27th running back coming off the board. Owners have been weary despite the fact Lacy is the No. 1 back at this point. He has handled his weight management well early in camp and should be the early favorite to be the leading rusher. He ranks only as an RB3, but the reward could be a No. 1 back on a pretty good team.

GB RB Eddie Lacy - Week 6, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Dallas
Lacy had 11 carries for 81 yards last week before leaving with an ankle injury. He'll be limited in practice, but is expected to play against a tough Dallas defense that has been tough against opposing running backs - in part because the Cowboys have played with leads. Backup James Starks also is hurting and might not play this week, which would help Lacy's value. He's a No. 2 back this week.

GB RB Eddie Lacy - Week 5, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. New York Giants
Lacy had 17 carries for 103 yards in his last outing before the bye, doubling his total for the season. The 17 carries were a season high, and he's averaging just 14 per game thus far. The Giants haven't allowed an opposing back to top 100 yards yet this season, though they have given up three rushing TDs to running backs, including two last week against Minnesota. But if Lacy isn't going to get more touches, he's not worth using as more than a No. 2 back. It is worth noting James Starks got just one carry in Green Bay's last game, so that could bode well moving forward.

GB RB Eddie Lacy - Week 3, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Detroit
Lacy had 12 carries for 50 yards last week and is averaging just 14 carries per game through two weeks. He also has just one reception. That's not good enough to be a No. 1 back. But, in his past two home games against Detroit, Lacy has 199 yards rushing. So there is some hope. At the least, he's a No. 2 RB this week with some upside.

GB RB Eddie Lacy - Week 2, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Minnesota
Lacy had 14 carries for 61 yards and one catch for another 17 yards last week in a relatively quiet game. That was the bad news. The good is James Starks got just four carries. If that's the workload distribution going forward, that's music to the ears of Lacy owners, as better days will be ahead. Despite his struggles last season, he had 22 carries for 100 yards in a win at Minnesota. It was Lacy's fifth 100-yard game in his last six meetings with the Vikings. He's being a bit undervalued, so Lacy has some upside potential here.

GB RB Eddie Lacy - Week 1, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Jacksonville
After a disappointing - to say the least, a trimmed-down Lacy will want to show he's ready to put 2015 behind him. Jacksonville's run defense was fifth in the league in 2015 allowing 3.7 yards per rushing attempt, but Lacy is the kind of grinder who could give Jacksonville, which allowed 13 rushing TDs to opposing running backs last season, problems. Lacy should be a borderline No. 1 starter this week, or, at the very least, a great No. 2 start.

GB RB Eddie Lacy - 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

2016 Fantasy Outlook
A first-round draft pick in many leagues last season. Lacy disappointed greatly as he ate his way onto the bench. Lacy finished with 758 yards on 187 carries and scored just three times, while sharing time with James Starks. Lacy also had just 20 receptions in his forgettable season. He has reportedly trimmed down and should be highly motivated heading into a contract year, and the return of Jordy Nelson should also back some defenders off the line of scrimmage. Despite his struggles last season, Lacy still averaged 4.1 yards per carry (the same as his first season in the league). He should bounce back this season with solid numbers, though Starks might have earned himself some playing time. Still, Lacy's ADP has him going in the second and third rounds, so he could be something of a bargain this year. Remember, he's still just 26 years old.
