LaDainian Tomlinson has carried the ball 3,003 times, rushed for 13,089 yards and scored 143 touchdowns in the National Football League over the last 10 seasons. Thursday, he was granted a first: a mid-week reduction in repetitions not due to injury.

"I can definitely tell the difference," Tomlinson said after going through a full day's workout. "More pop, fresher. I appreciate it."

Rex Ryan is hoping that a lightened load will result in more productive Sundays. Ryan maintained that his plan to limit Tomlinson and veteran fullback Tony Richardson one day per week as the season goes on was not due to Tomlinson's slight dip in yards per carry over the past four games.

"If you're going to back off at all, back off in practice," said Ryan, whose backfield ranks No. 4 in rushing yards. "You just want to keep them fresh for games."
