Underdog Best Ball Mania IV Strategy: Positional Allocation

Underdog Fantasy recently launched Best Ball Mania IV which means there are now three seasons of data from Underdog's flagship tournament.

Powered by 4for4’s new Underdog Roster Construction Tool, this study will provide the backbone for Best Ball Mania success—and other best ball tournaments on Underdog—in the form of positional allocation guidelines. Knowing how many players to draft at each position is the foundation of being a profitable best ball player and will serve as the framework for future studies on roster construction, positional draft strategies, and stacking considerations.

For the purposes of this research, the primary metric used to measure success will be playoff advance rate over expectation. Best Ball Mania 1 had different playoff advance rates than BBM2 and BBM3 and this metric normalizes for those changes. (See full explanation here) Drafters should note that playoff advance rates are just one way to optimize for Best Ball Mania drafts. In the coming weeks and months, the 4for4 staff will provide more detailed analysis of how to cultivate draft strategy for this tournament.
