Scouting report

CHI TE Zach Miller - Week 5, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Indianapolis
Zach Miller has now caught three touchdowns in his last two games, and will continue to be a beneficiary in this offense. His targets should see an increase with Kevin White sidelined to injury, especially in the red zone where he's a big target.

Miller will face a Colts defense that has allowed some productive days to good tight ends this season. We view Miller as a TE1 play this week because of the decent matchup, and his role in the offense.

CHI TE Zach Miller - Week 4, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Detroit
Even without his two touchdowns, Zach Miller had a good game last week. He caught eight of nine targets for 78 yards in Brian Hoyer's first full game at quarterback for the Bears. He'll look to continue that success in Week 4 against the Lions, a defense that has allowed the most points to tight ends this season.

The Lions have allowed a touchdown to the tight end position in every game so far. It's highly possible Miller continues that streak, although it's certainly no guarantee. Still, with the great matchup and previous production, Miller should be viewed as a TE1 play against Detroit.

CHI TE Zachary Miller - Week 3, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Dallas
Zach Miller has caught 7-of-9 targets for 47 yards through two games. Clearly that's not great production, and we want to see more out of him before we put him in our lineups. Miller is a very poor option this week.

CHI TE Zachary Miller - Week 2, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Baltimore
Zach Miller had a solid four targets and came away with three receptions, but only managed 14 yards. It's a disappointing stat line from someone who looked like a great player in 2015, but we expect his numbers to increase in the future.

He's still someone we like as a low-end TE1 this week against the Eagles. Miller may not lead the team in targets, but he'll get enough looks where he should be fantasy relevant. He's also a big body in the end zone, and could be a touchdown threat.

CHI TE Zachary Miller - Week 1, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Houston
Zach Miller came on strong at the end of last season, and the Bears liked him enough that they felt comfortable trading away Martellus Bennett to the Patriots. With the Black Unicorn prancing away, Miller has become the starter in Chicago, and there's reason for optimism when it comes to his production.

In 2015, Miller had 5-plus receptions in four of his last seven games and caught four touchdowns in that span as well.

Miller missed the preseason and some of training camp with a concussion, but he's been cleared now and is ready to play in Week 1. He gets a tough matchup against Houston, however, and is more of a low-end TE1 play this week.

CHI TE Zachary Miller - 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Zach Miller averaged over five targets per game after the Bears' bye week, and really came on strong at the end of the season. The Bears felt comfortable enough in Miller's ability to send away incumbent starter Martellus Bennett in a trade.

Miller is projected to start this season, and if he extrapolates his production at the end of 2015 into a full season, then he will finish with TE1 numbers.

Fantasy Downside
Miller's sudden emergence in 2015 was a shock considering he hadn't recorded a reception for a team prior to 2011. Those missed years were due to several injuries, and his history with injuries should send caution. He's also a 31-year-old tight end (will turn 32 during the season) with limited playing experience.

Bottom Line
There are some risks involved with Miller, but it's hard to ignore just how good he was in the second half of last season. He built a rapport with Jay Cutler and could be an interesting selection later in drafts.

CHI TE Zachary Miller - Week 17, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Detroit
Zach Miller wasn't practicing this week due to a toe injury, and there's a chance he won't play. If he does play, he'll be a decent option considering his production in recent weeks. There aren't many receiving threats for Jay Cutler to throw to, but Miller has been one of them. If he doesn't play, don't look at any of Chicago's backups to make a major impact.
