DEN TE Owen Daniels - Week 5, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Oakland
While he isn’t registering a lot of yards, Owen Daniels is being utilized in the red zone by the Broncos. In the win over the Vikings last Sunday, he was targeted five times, resulting in two catches, nine yards and a TD - his second straight game with a score. The Raiders had all sorts of problems containing Martellus Bennett last week, but Owen is a different type of TE. Daniels won’t have a lot of yards, but could find himself in the end zone again.

DEN TE Owen Daniels - Week 4, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Minnesota
In his most productive game as a Bronco, Owen Daniels caught five passes for 28 yards and added his first TD of the season in the victory over the Lions last Sunday. Owen had only five receptions coming into the contest and was targeted nine times on the night – tied with Emmanuel Sanders for second most. As Peyton Manning gets more comfortable in the offense, he will spread the ball around, but Daniels still is a tough fantasy play as he’ll remain no better than the No. 3 option in the passing attack.

DEN TE Owen Daniels - Week 3, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Detroit
Against Kansas City last week, Owen Daniels caught three balls for 19 yards. Even with Peyton Manning throwing 45 times, Daniels is not seeing a lot of looks. Do not bother starting Owen in the Sunday night game in Detroit.

DEN TE Owen Daniels - Week 2, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Kansas City
Even though Peyton Manning threw the ball 40 times last week, Owen Daniels saw only two looks, resulting in two catches for only five yards. Denver’s ground game should have more success at Kansas City on Thursday night, which should help out the passing attack. However, it's advised you look elsewhere for your starting TE in Week 2.

DEN TE Owen Daniels - Week 1, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Baltimore
Owen Daniels continues to follow HC Gary Kubiak around the NFL. After making stops in Houston and Baltimore, Daniels will be the Broncos starting TE. While he’s no Julius Thomas, Daniels has great hands and has scored 13 total TDs over the past three seasons. Look for him to become a favorite target of Peyton Manning’s, especially on third downs and in the red zone. Be cautious in Week 1, however, as we have him as the opening week’s No. 16 TE.

DEN TE Owen Daniels - 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Owen Daniels definitely knows HC Gary Kubiak’s system, as the TE has followed his coach from Houston to Baltimore and now Denver. During his 10 year career, he’s averaged nearly four receptions for 45 yards per contest. Owen averages 12 yards per reception and has 33 career TDs. At 6’ 3” and 245 pounds, he finds a way to almost always come down with the ball.

Fantasy Downside
Daniels doesn’t have the size or athleticism that Julius Thomas brought to the Denver passing attack the past couple years. And, he does have a history of injuries, missing 26 games over the past six seasons. The TE position seemed to disappear a bit for Peyton Manning in the second half of last season, as after catching nine TDs during the first five games of ’14, Thomas registered only three during the final eight contests he played in. Fellow TE Virgil Green will get plenty of playing time as well, as the balanced run attack requires some good blockers.

Bottom Line
Kubiak has shown a love for the TE position during his coaching career and that likely won’t stop in Denver. Be cautious with Daniels, however, as the Broncos likely have a bit different plans for the TE position than in the past three years with Peyton, as more blocking will be required. Daniels is just outside of our top-15 TE list.

BAL TE Owen Daniels - Week 19, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Divisional Round – Owen Daniels vs. New England

Owen Daniels had four catches for 70 yards as the Ravens knocked off the Steelers last week. Daniels has been a nice safety valve for quarterback Joe Flacco and has provided much needed insurance at the position since starter Dennis Pitta went down early in the season.

This week, Daniels faces an improving Patriots pass defense, but there’s so much depth at the TE position, that he’s not a good option for fantasy owners. Consider Daniels a step up from the third tier of options this week, but the back of the second tier, and ranked seventh on our board. In most leagues playing this round, that’s too deep for consideration.
