Scouting report

NYG TE Larry Donnell - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 – Larry Donnell vs. Philadelphia

Larry Donnell had four catches for 42 yards last week against the Rams, as the Giants continued their strong late season showing with a victory over St. Louis. Donnell has been kind of quiet in recent weeks, but he was still targeted five times, meaning he remains an active part of the Giants offense.

This week, Donnell has some increased upside against a struggling Philadelphia defense. The Eagles have given up over 250 passing yards per game this season, and the Giants will try to put a stamp on their season with a big victory over their division rivals. Donnell is risky because of his inconsistency, but he has some upside as a fringe TE fantasy starter this week.

NYG TE Larry Donnell - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 – Larry Donnell vs. St. Louis
Larry Donnell has strung together some disappointing outings as of late, and he had only two catches for 11 yards against Washington. This week, he’ll face a tougher opponent in the St. Louis Rams, who are third in the league in passing touchdowns alowed this season, and tenth in passing yards. Donnell has been good enough this season that he has some upside, but we have him as a fringe starter this late in the season, and if you can go with somebody that has shown more consistency, you’re probably better off.

NYG TE Larry Donnell - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 – Larry Donnell vs. Washington

Larry Donnell had only 28 yards last week on four catches, but he was targeted seven times, second on the team. He’s been a favorite target of Eli Manning this season but has been hurt by the lack of consistent production from the Giants offense.

This week, Donnell faces a Washington pass defense that has allowed 28 touchdown passes to opposing offenses this season, and has been just a wreck lately. The team seems to be falling apart and looking worse every week. Donnell hasn’t been consistent enough to be without risk, but if you don’t have one of the elite tight ends on your roster, you could do worse than gamble on Donnell in a great matchup. We have him as a borderline top ten option.

NYG TE Larry Donnell - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 – Larry Donnell vs. Tennessee

Larry Donnell has been a frustrating guy to own this year, blowing up in some weeks, and disappearing in others. He had five catches last week, but only 55 yards, and he also had a costly fumble. Time will tell whether the coaching staff will punish his fumbles with a lack of playing time, making him a shaky permanent option.

His upside is still good though, as he was second on the team last week with seven targets, and he faces a Tennessee defense that got torched last week by Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Houston passing game. That’s enough to keep him as a low-end TE1 in most leagues and if you don’t have one of the elite guys, you could do worse than gamble on Donnell in a great matchup.

NYG TE Larry Donnell - Week 13, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 – Larry Donnell vs. Jacksonville

Larry Donnell had only two catches for 24 yards last week as the Giants fell to the Dallas Cowboys. Donnell has been on a touchdown every other week trend the past few games, and fantasy owners will be hoping he stays true to that against the Jags this week.

Jacksonville has been surprisingly good rushing the passer this season, but have allowed an average of eight fantasy points per game to the TE position. Donnell has nice upside and the Giants have shown that they can make a TE valuable in fantasy, but he’s a fringe starter anyway due to his inconsistency on the year.

NYG TE Larry Donnell - Week 12, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 – Larry Donnell vs. Dallas

Larry Donnell had three catches for 54 yards and the Giants’ only touchdown against the 49ers last week. Donnell has been a nice surprise for fantasy owners, and while he’s not extremely consistent, he’s 12th among tight ends in receiving yards, and tied for sixth with six touchdown receptions this season.

This week, Donnell faces a Cowboys team that has been torched by the tight end position this year and will struggle to cover the surprisingly agile Donnell. Donnell’s inconsistency makes him a risk in any week, but he should be considered a solid starter this week in most leagues, just below the elite guys.

NYG TE Larry Donnell - Week 11, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 – Larry Donnell vs. San Francisco
Larry Donnell had only 26 yards on four receptions last week against the Seahawks. He’s been inconsistent this year, but at times has shown the ability to really blow up. He remains a fringe option this week against the tough San Francisco 49ers defense, but he has enough upside to stay active on fantasy rosters. We have him as a borderline top 10 guy, despite the matchup, due to the bye weeks. If you’ve got someone more consistent, the decision is easy, but Donnell has at least as much upside as the Riveras and Clays of the world.
